Capbern has come from nowhere to be seriously popular with our customers in the space of four years, thanks to winemaker Vincent Millet, who is reponsible here as well as at Calon Ségur. Amazing colour depth. An honest, complete wine, with red and black fruit making a harmonious nose. Quite soft and silky with precise flavours. Really well done. Appetisingly gourmand. 2016-2022 Rating: 89 L&S (Apr 2014)

The nose has a mix of perfumes and the palate lots of black cherry and sloe. There is mid depth the richer flavours slightly held back by the tannins but it fills out at the back with a nice depth of fruit. 2018-24 Rating: 87-89 Derek Smedley MW, 2014)

Rating: 90 Tim Atkin MW, 2014)

(91 Cabernet Sauvignon, 6 Merlot, 3 Petit Verdot) 13% alcohol, 36 hl/ha. According to winemaker, Vincent Millet, there was much less rain in Saint-Estèphe than in the rest of the northern Médoc. They started picking on 3 October with Merlot and then the 10th for Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the largest Cabernet percentage ever in this wine. No rot, nice balancing acidity, too. Only a touch of Merlot was used from the oldest blocks. This is a juicy, forward and exciting Capbern Gasqueton. It will drink well for a decade and it looks attractive already. Rating: 16 Richard Hemming MW - 2014)

Light savory and pepper hints fleck a core of soft plum and cherry fruit, with a floral twinge on the finish Rating: 86–89 James Molesworth, The Wine Spectator(Apr 2014)

A soft, silky red with spice and berry character. Some hazelnut. Medium body with fine tannins and a fresh finish. Savory and salty. 92% cabernet sauvignon, 8% merlot. Rating: 87-88 James Suckling, 2014)

The Chateau Capbern-Gasqueton 2013 is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon raised in 30% new wood. It has a light graphite scented bouquet that is a little subdued on the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins; graphite infused black fruit with a light classic finish. This is easy drinking but deftly crafted. Rating: 86-88 Neal Martin, 2014)

The 2013 Capbern Gasqueton shows lovely immediacy. A rich tapestry of dark red and blue fruits, violets, menthol and spices flow across the palate in a pretty, fruit-driven wine with plenty of near-term appeal. The 2013 Capbern Gasqueton possesses lovely density for the year and terrific overall balance. Best of all, it should be a solid value as well. Rating: 86-89 Antonio Galloni, 2014)
