CHÂTEAU FAUGÈRES

2013 Grand Cru Saint Emilion

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Saint Emilion & Satellites
Village Saint Emilion
Classification Grand Cru

Silky, bright with good volume, all nicely integrated, the tannins giving volume but not roughness. Pretty, well done. As it builds to the finish so does structure, but the fruit is there and up to it. Rating: 90 L&S (Apr 2014)

The 2013 Faugeres is dominated by Merlot at 85% and the rest Cabernet Franc, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. A well-made, attractive, open-knit wine with soft tannin and decent acidity, it has a vibrant black cherry and blackcurrant-scented nose with licorice and lead pencil shavings. The wine is medium-bodied with sweet tannins and should drink nicely for 7-10 years. 2014-2024 Rating: 87-89 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com (Aug 2014)

Rating: 85-87 Ian d'Agata - Stephen Tanzer website (May 2014)

Rich and ripe fruited on the nose the palate has good depth of fruit. The mid sweetness is balanced by red fruited freshness but the back palate and finish are lush rich and ripe. 2017-27. Rating: 88-90 Derek Smedley MW, www.dereksmedleymw.co.uk (May 2014)

Château Faugères

Château Faugères spreads across the appellation divide between St Emilion and the Côtes de Castillon and, consequently, produces examples of each. Long time in the ownership of the Guisez family, Faugères was bought in 1995 by Swiss businessman Silvio Denz who, together with his friend Comte Stephan von Neipperg and well-known consultant Michel Rolland, have driven the estate's reputation forward. To this end, more vineyards have been purchased and a brand new state of the art winery built. Four wines are produced at Château Faugères - the "grand vin", Château Faugères, 85% Merlot; a second wine, Haut Faugères; a super-premium 100% Merlot Parker-pleasing wine, Cuvée Spéciale Péby, named after Péby Guisez; and the produce of their Côtes de Castillon vineyards Cap de Faugères.
