2013 Pomerol

Grapes Cab Franc, Merlot
Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Pomerol & Lalande de Pomerol
Village Pomerol

Glossy and perfumed with cherry fruit, some peppery spice and a touch of vanilla too. Chewy and substantial in both tannin and body. Liquorice and leather – has all the tropes of claret but the finish needs time in bottle to extend. Drinking range: 2021 - 2033 Rating: 17 Richard Hemming MW - (Apr 2018)

Due to the tiny crop in 2013, only 500 cases were made of this Pomerol estate, which has done so well since the late nineties. Soft mocha and black cherry fruit are found in this elegant, but not terribly deep or intense 2013. It is charming, seductive and medium-bodied with well-integrated tannin, decent acidity and no hard edges. Drink it over the next 6-8 years. 2014-2022 Rating: 87-89 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, 2014)

(80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc): Dark ruby. Blueberry, menthol and violet on the perfumed nose. On the palate, floral dark berry flavors are complicated by vanilla and ink. Youthfully chewy tannins rise on the long finish, which features a repeating violet note. Rating: 87-90 Ian d'Agata - Stephen Tanzer website(May 2014)

Sweet on the nose the palate has rich fruit lots of ripe black plum. There is some bramble freshness giving a lighter feel in the middle but it fills out at the back with rich ripe fleshy black fruits. 2018-28. Rating: 88-92 Derek Smedley MW, 2014)

Rating: 88 Tim Atkin MW, 2014)

Classic and restrained. Bright, fresh, harmonious and persistent. Fine tannic frame. Drink: 2018-2028. Rating: 16.75 James Lawther MW, 2014)

Very pure and silky, with lovely kirsch and plum notes gliding along. Offers a polished structure and a perfumy floral note on the finish. Understated and well done. Rating: 88–91 James Molesworth, The Wine Spectator(Apr 2014)

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the Clos l'Eglise was one of the first to be picked around 26 September and then further on into October. It has a ripe, fleshy, red fruit-driven bouquet with touches of espresso in the background. It is nicely defined and expands in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, slightly grainy tannins. There is good weight if not enormous persistency, but it feels cohesive and unforced, a natural Pomerol cru that flows gently along. Rating: 90-92 Neal Martin, 2014)
