KUMEU RIVER 'VILLAGE'

2014 KUMEU RIVER 'Village' Chardonnay

Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin New Zealand, North Island
ABV 13.5%

All these wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts. Saline, light and fresh at the start, with an undercurrent of leesy fatness, but dominated by a streak of fresh acidity which renders it firm and bright. This one is only 5% in wood. Pretty. At this level of price this is a very classy wine. Drinking range: 2016 - 2018 L&S (Sept 2016)

If Kumeu's single vineyards are Côte d'Or, then this is Chablis. Crisp and chalky, with a hint of blanched nuts over its green apple freshness. Drinking range: 2017 - 2018 Rating: 87 Decanter Magazine (Dec 2016)

The Brajkowich family are a class apart in the Kiwi Chardonnay-producing fraternity, and their equivalent of a Burgundy village wine has a touch of smoky flintiness and a little savoury oakiness, but is mainly distinguished by the clean-cut aromatic apple blossom and citrus. Great value. The Wine Gang - www.thewinegang.com (Nov 2016)

Pale straw-yellow. Slightly high-toned aromas of lemon drop, musky white peach and fresh herbs, plus a hint of ginger. Fat, broad and sweet, with lemon and apple fruit flavors kept fresh by some unabsorbed CO2. Finishes dusty and firm, with a brisk apple note and lingering spice character. A very good entry-level Chardonnay. Drinking range: 2016 - 2018 Rating: 88 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (May 2016)

Kumeu River

From the pioneering days to the establishment of the New Zealand wine industry to today, the Brajkovich family have been internationally recognised as producing world class wine. The Brajkovich family continue to harvest their grapes at Kumeu and refine their wine making skills.

The Brajkovichs are nationally recognised as a founding family of the New Zealand wine industry, and the current generation are internationally recognised as producing world class Chardonnay.

Just as the Brajkovich family has grown, so too has the winery itself. Extensions and additions mark the milestones that have seen business adapt and expand over the years. Today, the winery produces around 250,000 bottles annually from 30 hectares of its own vineyards in Kumeu, and another 10 hectares from local growers.
