Pretty scented floral fruit nose. Black fruit and fine tannins. Very attractive - no whole bunch - there was enough concentration here (after the hail) not to need it. Drinking range: 2018 - L&S (Nov 2015)

Alternatively we may well have some bottles in one of our shops - why not give one of them a call?

A discreet touch of wood sets off aromas of plum, violet and dark fruit liqueur-like scents. There is really lovely vibrancy to the utterly delicious and impressively concentrated medium-bodied flavors that possess outstanding richness that is delivered on the powerful, compact and austere finish where a touch of bitter cherry arises. This is a bruiser of a Lavières and thus not at all typical so note well that it’s going to need plenty of bottle age. 2022+ Rating: 89 Allen Meadows, (Apr 2016)

“It’s clay so I am careful with the some moment I decided it is was too closed and we racked. We kept the fine lees and put back into barrels. This is sweet, full and open. Very easy and expressive. This is very accessible. Red plumy fruit and easy tannins. Rating: 16.75 Sarah Marsh MW, The Burgundy Briefing (Nov 2015)

Domaine Nicolas Rossignol

Nicolas Rossignol is a new superstar in the village of Volnay, making deeply coloured flavourful wines from his own vines and from the fruit of the family vineyard, where the wines were in the past labelled 'Rossignol-Jeanniard'. He has now agreed with his family that he buys all the fruit, and so the wines are now labelled very similarly, either with or without the word 'domaine'.

Since these are all vineyards under his sole control thoughout the year, it really does not make any difference which is which. The character of each site shows through all the wines, but perhaps especially in the beautifully balanced Volnays, which incline to a very bright, transparent, incisive style. Sadly 2012, 2013 and now 2014 have all been hit hard by hail, so these wines are getting a bit rare - the volumes have been catastrophically down.
