CHÂTEAU FEYTIT CLINET

2015 Pomerol

EN PRIMEUR

A sense of having been picked early enough - it is very pure and fresh, silky tannins firm to the excellent finish. Rating: 90-91 L&S (Apr 2016)

A very plush and fluid wine that’s great value for 2015. Dark plums, smooth baking spices and a gently tarry edge lead to a palate that offers succulent, fine tannins that exude smooth, velvety charm through the finish. Drinking range: 2020 - Rating: 93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Feb 2018)

The 2015 Feytit-Clinet is a wine of dark, brooding intensity. Vertical in its construction, the 2015 exudes power and structure. My sense is that the 2015 is recovering from its relatively recent bottling, as it is a bit closed down today. Even so, the depth and richness the 2015 showed as a barrel sample are still very much in evidence. Black cherry, plum, graphite, smoke, heavy toast and lavender add myriad shades of nuance. In two separate tastings, the 2015 was much less expressive than it was as a barrel sample, which probably bodes very well for its long term future. I wouldn't dream of opening a bottle anytime soon. Tasted two times. Drinking range: 2023 - 2040 Rating: 96 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2018)

Lovely, textured, restrained Pomerol from a château that deserves a bigger reputation. Coffee bean and mocha aromas add a sheen to the structured, yet voluptuous fruit flavours with acidity and minerality for balance. Drinking range: 2022 - 2032 Rating: 95 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (May 2016)

Very rich, almost brûlée, on the nose. Thick and creamy in texture. Lots of reward. Quite forward. Great for restaurants? Drinking range: 2019 - 2032 Rating: 16.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2016)

Bright and fragrant, with fine texture and tannins. Builds on the palate to provide length. Fresh and persistent, showing elegant weight and style. Drinking range: 2021 - 2033 Rating: 91 James Lawther MW, decanter.com (Apr 2016)

An increasingly interesting domaine run by Jeremy Chasseuil. This has an intriguing nose of dark, spicy, toasted fruit. I get creamed plums, damsons, and touches of soot. The palate is supple, broad, full of deliciously creamed fruit, a very confident and composed style, holding up nicely in the middle. There are some dark, roasted tannins here, but they are nicely set against the substance of the wine. And it has a fresh acidity too. This has a convincing substance and plenty of promise. It terminates in a long and confident finish. Rating: 16.5-17.5/20 Chris Kissack, www.thewinedoctor.com (Apr 2016)

The 2015 Château Feytit-Clinet has a perfumed and floral bouquet, wilted violets filtering through the dark cherry and cassis fruit, gaining more complexity as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin that are cloaked in layers of lightly toasted dark berry fruit, the new oak a little obvious at the moment, yet there is more than sufficient fruit to subsume all that with 6-8 years in bottle. Jeremy Chasseuil has created another exemplary Pomerol from this estate that continues to threaten to break into the big league. This is absolutely delicious and it deserves the great recognition that this wine currently attracts. Drinking range: 2023 - 2050 Rating: 93-95 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Apr 2016)

The 2015 Feytit-Clinet is one of the most exciting, viscerally thrilling wines of the vintage. Graphite, smoke, charcoal, violets, and a host of intense, dark fruits make a strong first impression. Vertical and towering in the glass, the 2015 possesses magnificent intensity to match its virile, brooding personality. There is a sense of explosive energy in the 2015 that is simply compelling. Readers who can find the 2015 should not hesitate, as it is stunning. What a wine! The blend is approximately 96% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. Rating: 96-98 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2016)

Fabulous depth of fruit here with blackberry, blueberry, mineral and dried meat character. Full body, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Rating: 93-94 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Mar 2016)

Jérémy Chasseuil took this property in hand in 2000, and the wines have got better with every passing vintage, truly showing the potential of this tiny 6.5 hectare property, set right in the heart of Pomerol (close to Clinet, Trotanoy and Latour à Pomerol). It's on gravelly-sandy and clay soils and planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with vines that average over 30 years old. Despite the name, and the statement "mis en bouteille au chateau" on the label, there is no château, just a small well-equipped chai.
The grapes are hand-picked before fermentation in concrete and steel vats, where they spend four or five weeks before the wine is run off for the malolactic fermentation in barrel. The wine is aged for around 18 months is up to 80% new oak barrels.

Please make sure that you have read the terms of this offer which are different from those of the main website. If you are unclear as to what is involved in primeur purchases please do call us, but see the 'practical notes' below.

Ordering

Prices are per case as listed 'in bond London'.

Pre-Orders are a firm commitment from you to buy the wines you order on release, subject to the price being below the upper price of the estimated band on our website. You may also set your own upper price limit, lower or higher than ours. Pre-orders will be fulfilled subject to availability. Providing this firm commitment to us effectively gives you priority.

Wines listed on the website (after any pre-orders and allocations have been fulfilled) can be ordered in the usual way via the website order form or by email or telephone 020 7221 1982, always subject to stock remaining.

Confirmation

All orders will be confirmed by email and are contractually binding unless written cancellation is received within seven days of the confirmation date, apart from pre-orders which are binding if the release price is below the top estimate or other price you have set.

Invoices are raised at the In Bond price, excluding any duty and VAT which will become payable at the prevailing rates on arrival of the wine if required duty paid.

Payment is required on sight of invoice, by cash, cheque, debit card or credit transfer. We reserve the right to charge 2% per month on invoices unpaid after 30 days.

Delivery

  • Shipment to our bond (LCB Creek Road) and insurance are included in the in bond price.
  • Delivery is free to Lea and Sandeman / Elephant storage accounts, both duty paid and in bond.
  • Other deliveries (In Bond and Duty Paid) are also free subject to a minimum order from the offer of £1000, orders below this total will be charged £16.50+ VAT when the wine invoices are issued. We will group deliveries and this is a charge for your entire purchases, not a per-case charge.
  • Delivery for 2016 Bordeaux primeurs will probably be completed by October 2019, but we make no guarantee as to specific delivery times, and some of the Sauternes may be later.

Practical notes - how it works

We start a sale in each customer's name and add all their primeur orders to one sale which is invoiced at the end of the campaign (or when the customer wishes) for immediate payment. We and our customers find that having a single invoice for the vintage is the simpler option, but do please note that confirmed orders are still binding as above even if the final invoice has not been issued.

When the wine is shipped, unless previously specified we will assume that delivery is to be to bonded storage with Elephant Storage, but in any case, we will contact you requesting any alternative instructions. If you have another bonded delivery address you would like the wine to go to, please tell us at the time of ordering. If the wines are required duty-paid we will issue invoices at the rates prevailing at the time for the excise duty (currently £25.98 per case) and the VAT (currently at 20%) on the total of the wine cost and the duty.

Half-bottles, Magnums and larger bottles.

One of the additional advantages of buying en primeur is being able to order the wine in the bottle size you want. Even if a wine is only listed in one size, you can order any bottle or case size you want if the property supplies it, but you must order the case/bottle size you require and check that the correct size has been invoiced.

Additional charges are as follows:-

  • +£15 per case of 24 half-bottles
  • +£15 per case of 6 Magnums (2 bottles equivalent, 1.5 litres each)
  • +£35 per individually boxed Double Magnum (4 bottles equivalent, 3 litres)
  • +£45 per individually boxed Imperial (8 bottles equivalent, 6 litres) for Salmanazars, Balthazars, Nebuchadnezzars and Melchiors please enquire for availability and price.
