CHÂTEAU MONTLANDRIE
2015 Côtes de Castillon
75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The terroir has really asserted itself here. You can really feel the limestone in this, it is less round and 'on the fruit' than the others, (Saintayme / Chenade / Cruzelles) and more about the ground, the limestone, the stricter structure, tighter fruit in the fine chalky tannins and firmer, more concentrated length. Great stuff. Rating: 91-92 L&S (Apr 2016)

The 2015 Montlandrie has a relatively lighter, well-defined bouquet with mainly red fruit, peppermint and blood orange aromas gaining intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with strict tannins. This is a bit stubborn, very linear and it needs more flesh and rondeur toward the finish. Tasted blind at the 2015 Bordeaux Ten-Year-On tasting. Drinking range: 2026 - 2036 Rating: 88 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jun 2025)
The 2015 Montlandrie, matured in 45% new oak, has a very succinct and cohesive bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, briary and light espresso scents. The wood is beautifully assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, perfectly pitched acidity, a little savory and dried blood surfacing toward the finish to complete a glorious wine that fulfills its promise from barrel. Superb. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting. Drinking range: 2020 - 2035 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jul 2019)
The 2015 Montlandrie is another stellar wine from Denis Durantou. Dark, sumptuous and alluring, the 2015 is going to be virtually impossible to resist in its youth. The blackberry jam, graphite, savory herb, lavender, licorice and crushed rock flavors are remarkably rich and vivid in the glass. As good as the 2015 is today, it also has tons of underlying tannin that is going to need a bit of time to resolve itself. The blend is 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drinking range: 2021 - 2030 Rating: 93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2018)
There’s only 5% Cabernet Sauvignon in Denis Durantou’s wine, but it’s remarkable what it brings to the blend. Violet-perfumed, with plum, cassis and blackcurrant leaf complemented by stylish oak and a chalky, minerally freshness. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 93 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (May 2016)
The 2015 Montlandrie is a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, picked between September 29 and October 8, and matured in 45% new oak. This is perhaps more precocious on the nose compared to Denis Durantou's La Chenade and Les Cruzelles 2015s, gradually revealing an attractive floral, dried rose petal/pot pourri scent as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite grippy in the mouth, the acidity nicely judged here and again, very harmonious and sensual on the finish. You could almost whisk this out of barrel and drink this now, but preferably, give it 4-5 years in bottle. Drinking range: 2019 - 2032 Rating: 90-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Apr 2016)
Denis Durantou. 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. 45% new oak. Dark healthy crimson. Sweet and open on the nose - charming even without great concentration. Very sweet start with marked acidity. Not, unlike some Castillons, like a St-Émilion. But competently made. Drinking range: 2020 - 2026 Rating: 16 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2016)
Owned by Denis Durantou’s (L’Eglise-Clinet). Vineyard restructured since 2009. Beautiful Merlot expression: berry fruit with a hint of chocolate. Lovely depth of fruit and tannins. Energy and depth on the palate then tannins build to a long finish. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 91 James Lawther MW, decanter.com (Apr 2016)
The 2015 Montlandrie shows just how appealing and delicious the wines of Castillon are this year. Plump, juicy and giving, the 2015 wraps around the palate with striking depth and creaminess. There is plenty of tannin lurking beneath, but it is nearly buried by the intensity of the fruit. Far from an easygoing wine, the 2015 Montlandrie is going to need a few years to be at its best. This is an impressive showing. Montandrie is 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon brought in between September 5 and October 6. Rating: 90-93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2016)
The blend is 75% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, with 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit was picked between September 29th and October 8th, with a yield of 45 hl/ha. A really singing nose, you can sense the limestone of the hill here, with a dark, taut, spicy intensity to the fruit, a mix of the Cabernet Sauvignon and the stony terroir surely. This is really characterful on the palate, with a tense, stony frame to the palate, with really serious structure to it belying its appellation, and a spicy energy to the fruit. This is delicious, but firm and reserved, and it will need a lot of time to come around. Magic stuff, really impressive, serious and set to be great value. Rating: 16.5-17.5/20 Chris Kissack, www.thewinedoctor.com (Apr 2016)
There's some zing to this, with black currant, cherry and plum fruit laced with a mouthwatering note of dried anise. This gets a floral lift through the finish, with a graphite note building as well. Rating: 90—93 James Molesworth, The Wine Spectator (Apr 2016)
A solid core of fruit here. It’s so sexy and exotic with juicy fruit, velvety tannins and a long finish. Bright acidity. Loving it. Rating: 92-93 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Mar 2016)
Château Montlandrie
Among the brightest stars of the exalted Pomerol appellation is Denis Durantou at Château l’Eglise-Clinet. A little further south-east, across the boundary in the Côtes de Castillon is Château Montlandrie that Denis bought in 2009. Much renovation has taken place at the 12ha vineyard that includes, almost uniquely for the Right Bank, new plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon that now make up 15% of the vineyard alongside the usual 65% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
Please make sure that you have read the terms of this offer which are different from those of the main website. If you are unclear as to what is involved in primeur purchases please do call us, but see the 'practical notes' below.
Ordering
Prices are per case as listed 'in bond London'.
Pre-Orders are a firm commitment from you to buy the wines you order on release, subject to the price being below the upper price of the estimated band on our website. You may also set your own upper price limit, lower or higher than ours. Pre-orders will be fulfilled subject to availability. Providing this firm commitment to us effectively gives you priority.
Wines listed on the website (after any pre-orders and allocations have been fulfilled) can be ordered in the usual way via the website order form or by email or telephone 020 7221 1982, always subject to stock remaining.
Confirmation
All orders will be confirmed by email and are contractually binding unless written cancellation is received within seven days of the confirmation date, apart from pre-orders which are binding if the release price is below the top estimate or other price you have set.
Invoices are raised at the In Bond price, excluding any duty and VAT which will become payable at the prevailing rates on arrival of the wine if required duty paid.
Payment is required on sight of invoice, by cash, cheque, debit card or credit transfer. We reserve the right to charge 2% per month on invoices unpaid after 30 days.

Practical notes - how it works
We start a sale in each customer's name and add all their primeur orders to one sale which is invoiced at the end of the campaign (or when the customer wishes) for immediate payment. We and our customers find that having a single invoice for the vintage is the simpler option, but do please note that confirmed orders are still binding as above even if the final invoice has not been issued.
When the wine is shipped, unless previously specified we will assume that delivery is to be to bonded storage with Elephant Storage, but in any case, we will contact you requesting any alternative instructions. If you have another bonded delivery address you would like the wine to go to, please tell us at the time of ordering. If the wines are required duty-paid we will issue invoices at the rates prevailing at the time for the excise duty (currently £25.98 per case) and the VAT (currently at 20%) on the total of the wine cost and the duty.
Half-bottles, Magnums and larger bottles.
One of the additional advantages of buying en primeur is being able to order the wine in the bottle size you want. Even if a wine is only listed in one size, you can order any bottle or case size you want if the property supplies it, but you must order the case/bottle size you require and check that the correct size has been invoiced.
Additional charges are as follows:-
- +£15 per case of 24 half-bottles
- +£15 per case of 6 Magnums (2 bottles equivalent, 1.5 litres each)
- +£35 per individually boxed Double Magnum (4 bottles equivalent, 3 litres)
- +£45 per individually boxed Imperial (8 bottles equivalent, 6 litres) for Salmanazars, Balthazars, Nebuchadnezzars and Melchiors please enquire for availability and price.
