2015 Grand Cru Classé Saint Emilion

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Saint Emilion & Satellites
Village Saint Emilion
Classification Grand Cru Classé

Like the Larcis (at the same tasting of Nicolas Thienpont's wines at Pavie Macquin), this has that sense of tautness and freshness. Limestone here and it shows, oak is present too, but it is not overwhelming, and there is dryness on the finish, all with fruit clinging and terrific length. Rating: 92-93+? L&S (Apr 2016)

So much violet and lilac aromas to this with blackberry and blueberry character, too. Full-bodied and delivering limestone, chalk and lavender on the palate. Great structure, too. Needs four or five years to soften. Drinking range: 2022 - Rating: 98 James Suckling, (Feb 2018)

Nicolas and his son Cyrille Thienpont make the wine for the Corre-Macquin family. 84% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Sweet and rich on the nose. Then marked acidity on the palate. Rather different from and fresher than some earlier vintages. Drinking range: 2024 - 2038 Rating: 16.5+ Jancis Robinson OBE MW - (Apr 2016)

Rating: 89 Tim Atkin MW, (Apr 2016)
