Quite a ripe, 'autumn raspberry' sort of fruit on the nose, ripe in the middle, retaining freshness, middle weight, quite harmonious. Not massive but pretty, and with decent length, will probably be rather silky and delicious like the 2012. Rating: 88-89 L&S (Apr 2016)

The 2015 Sénéjac has developed nicely over the last two years, although it remains a wine built on floral/savory aromatics and midweight structure. Sweet red berry, tobacco, mint and licorice add shades of nuance to this decidedly understated Haut-Médoc. I had hoped the 2015 would fill out a bit during its aging, but that has not happened. The blend is 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Drinking range: 2018 - 2027 Rating: 87 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2018)

The 2015 Senejac is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. It has a pure, black cherry, pastille-like bouquet with touches of melted tar and licorice. The palate is well balanced with dry, rather masculine tannin on the entry, a good line of acidity, fresh and nicely proportioned with cedar and tobacco furnishing the long finish. This is a well-crafted, capable Sénéjac that deserves 5-6 years in bottle, and I expect it to land at the top of my banded score. In the 2015 vintage this estate, run by Alfred Tesseron and Jean-Michel Comme of Château Pontet-Canet, has some dark, lightly roasted fruits, a touch of coffee grounds too, with some toasted almond. Underneath I find notes of dried cherry skins. A rather cool palate here, rather fresh, showing a lot of oaky lactones wrapped up in a juicy red-fruit character. It has supple and rather chalky tannins, and plenty of fresh acidity. Cool, reserved and rather austere in style. Rating: 14.5-15.5/20 Chris Kissack, www.thewinedoctor.com (Apr 2016)

Château Sénéjac

So far south in the Haut-Médoc that it exists in splendid isolation, without vineyard neighbours, in the tiny settlement of Le Pian Médoc, is Château Sénéjac. The usual Bordelais long complicated history is crowned by the purchase of Sénéjac in 1999 by Lorraine Cordier, owner of Château Talbot. Since Lorraine’s death, Sénéjac has been managed by her sister Nancy Bignon Cordier with operations overseen by Alfred Tesseron and his team from Château Pontet Canet. There are 39ha of vineyard, in a single block, planted with 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, with an average age of 35 years. The wines of Château Sénéjac offer splendid value and relatively early appeal.
