This elevated site was planted as recently as 1990 - and had never had vineyards there before - but the seven vignerons involved made the right decision. Focused, concentrated, yet still closed, it’s a gutsy, serious Pinot with structured, bloody tannins and some pepper spice. Cask sample. Beautiful ripe primary fruit with a redcurrant and cherry flavour, edged with fresh mint. So expressive and outgoing - really charming and drinkable. Soft wood notes float atop the beautifully spicy, ripe and fresh aromas of both red and dark currant, earth and a hint of cinnamon. There is terrific underlying material to the rich and wonderfully refined medium weight flavors that possess fine volume and mid-palate concentration that coats the palate on the lingering finish that is shaped by dense but fine tannins. Domaine François Lumpp
François and Isabelle Lumpp own this impeccable 16 hectare estate in Givry, a region which is so often over looked by Burgundy lovers and yet which is capable of producing wines of exceptional quality as well as value. François is a passionate viticulturalist and places great emphasis on making the wine in the vineyard.
He aims to pick at 'just ripe' rather than into overripe, and wants to make bright wines which are developed rather than masked by their time in barrel. Making the best wines in Givry, by some stretch, if he were in any other part of Burgundy he would be heralded as a super-star.
