Old Carignan makes 60% of this cuvée with 30% Grenache and 20% Syrah. Quite a stately fruit in silky tannins. It is all aged in wood. Lots of big flavour, but what dominates is the limestone of the vineyard, to the extent that what comes across is limestone haunted by the fruit, more serious than voluptuous, with freshness and vitality, dry and bright with super juicy acidity. A blend of 40% Carignan, 40% Syrah and 20% Grenache off a south-exposed, limestone parcel, 80% of the 2016 Minervois La Ciaude aged in oak. It's toasty and cedary as a result, with hints of garrigue and mixed berries poking through the vanillin overcoat. Medium to full-bodied, with a supple, creamy texture on the mid-palate, it then ends crisp and clean. Drinking range: 2019 - 2025 Rating: 92 Joe Czerwinski, www.robertparker.com (Apr 2018)
Domaine Anne Gros et Jean-Paul Tollot
Anne Gros and Jean-Paul Tollot (Domaine Tollot-Beaut) have taken over some wonderful vineyards in the Minervois, and brought Burgundian savoir-faire to an area which all too often produces sweet or leaden-footed lumpen wines. These wines have a style of lively freshness which is so uncommon anywhere in Languedoc-Roussillon. We were bowled over by their drinkability, and feel they offer so much in terms of character and flavour, while remaining easy to approach, mineral and light of touch.
