2016 1er Cru Pucelles Domaine Henri Boillot
|Sub-district||Côte de Beaune|
Brighter, almost spritz-like with excitement and energy. Super sharp feel with a tropical punch, this has great juiciness to accompany the acidity. Blossomy apple flower notes meld with warm, soft pineapple and a touch of honey - but not sweet. Finishes broad, saline and complete. L&S (Oct 2017)

Reticent, mineral-driven aromas of yellow fruits, smoke and crushed stone, plus a hint of iodiney oyster-shell minerality. Broad, silky and fine-grained, conveying a powerful impression of terroir to its savory stone fruit, spice and salty mineral flavors. A wine of considerable finesse for its thickness and dimension, this beauty finishes with outstanding slow-mounting persistence and a light touch. Drinking range: 2024 - 2033 Rating: 94 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com(Sep 2018)
A beautifully layered nose displays top notes of honeysuckle together with spiced pear, apple and smoky nuances. There is exceptional richness to the delicious, concentrated and punchy medium-bodied flavors that culminate in a notably dry but not really austere finish that delivers stunningly good length. This is a powerful Pucelles yet it remains a wine of grace. Drinking range: 2028 - Rating: 94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com(Jun 2018)
(this fruit was picked at 13.2% natural alcohol and finished at 13.5%; 4.5 g/l acidity with a pH of 3.17; always the highest in alcohol and acidity, owing in part to millerandage): Medium bright yellow. Fully ripe scents of stone and soft citrus fruits, hazelnut and spices, with a sexy musky note of nutty reduction. Suave on entry, then quite powerful, concentrated, salty and dry in the middle. Finishes penetrating and long, with some alcoholic warmth. This wine was demonstrably better on second taste and will benefit from several years of cellaring. Domaine Henri Boillot
A domaine which dates to 1885, but which began properly in the early years of the 20th century under the current Henri's grandfather (also Henri). His son, Jean, was the one who really developed it. Henri arrived in 1975 and worked his way up, becoming the winemaker. In 2000 he began the building of the new winery at the bottom of Meursault, and he then bought out his brother and sister to keep the domaine as one, renaming it from 'Domaine Jean Boillot' to 'Domaine Henri Boillot' to avoid confusion with his brother Jean-Marc's domaine.
After six years working alongside his father, Guillaume is the 'chef de culture', i.e. heads up the vineyard team, and has been entirely responsible for the vinification of the reds since 2012. Henri continues to make the whites which he likes to be 'straight, taut, precise, pure and elegant'. Guillaume's input has resulted in red wines that have gained in definition and energy, without losing the luxurious velvety richness and fruit depth that they have always had.
The Domaine totals around 14 hectares, with roughly equal surfaces of red and white, and of which just under 4ha is the Monopole vineyard of Clos de la Mouchère, a walled enclave within the premier Cru Puligny Perrières. The 2017 vintage saw the arrival of two new parcels of Grand Cru red, in Échezeaux and Latricières Chambertin
