GEVREY CHAMBERTIN

2017 Évocelles Domaine Bernard Dugat-Py

EN PRIMEUR

Sadly when we visited this wine was just finishing its Malolactic Fermentation and Loic decided it was unfit to taste. But he was very happy with what he had in barrel and having tasted through the rest of the cellar it is hard to imagine anything other than excellence here once again. He was really pleased how this year the classic Evocelles minerality was really at the core here.L&S (Nov 2018)

(from a .75 ha vineyard worked manually and by horse). Relatively prominent herbal tea and crushed leaf elements are present on the ripe and very fresh wild red and dark currant scents. The ultra-sleek and refined flavors brim with minerality as well as underlying tension before culminating in a dusty and youthfully austere finale that evidences a hint of dryness that I suspect will eventually dissipate with age. Drinking range: 2029 - Rating: 89 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2020)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles 1er Cru has an intense black cherry and raspberry coulis scented bouquet, plenty of concentration here, unsurprising since the old vines yielded around 25hl/ha. The palate is well balanced. The 50% whole bunches are neatly integrated, with slightly chewy tannin and a citrus, quite focused orange rind-tinged finish. Drinking range: 2023 - 2038 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2019)

Sweet spice that seems to be both fruit and oak. Dark red fruits, really ripe but not overripe. Firm and grippy on the palate, with a savoury character given by the tannins. Deep and richly fruited and lovely freshness adding to the length. Juicy at the core. Opens up to a red-fruited ripe scent. Deep and generous in fruit. Drinking range: 2022 - 2032 Rating: 16.5 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2018)

Domaine Dugat-Py, along with only DRC, Roumier, Rousseau and Leroy, is rated in the top Three Star category by the 'Classement' published by the Revue du Vin de France. These are the essence of robust Burgundy, wines of huge scale and concentration. Patience is required, so lay down a few grand bottles for your dotage.

Wines bought en primeur are scheduled to arrive in the UK over the course of the next eighteen months. If you do not wish to take home delivery, you may wish to consider where you would like the wines shipped on arrival in the UK. Lea & Sandeman offers duty paid and in bond storage through a dedicated storage company called Elephant Storage. For more details on the terms and fees associated with storage please go to our Storage Homepage or contact our primeurs team for more information.

While helpful, we do not require a firm commitment on delivery destination to process your primeur order at this stage. Our team will be in contact with you when your wines arrive in the UK to confirm the necessary delivery details.
