The Braunewell "Lagenweine" are the estate's top-tier wines. Only the oldest vineyards featuring classic grape varieties from their top sites—Essenheimer Teufelspfad (Devil's Path) and Elsheimer Blume—are selected for this distinction. The TEUFELSPFAD Spätburgunder represents the red pinnacle for this agile winemaking family. Grown in one of the best sites in the Selztal valley, protected from the wind and facing the sun, the grapes ripen optimally. The Palate: Wild berry and sour cherry open up the wine to a seductive interplay of fruit and finesse! Expect strong fruit, ripe tannins, and a long, finely spiced finish. The duet of acidic structure and power are its main character strengths and help it stay delicious from the first glass to the last. L&S (Nov 2025)

Weingut Braunewell

François Breiniville fled 17th Century France's Huguenot persecution to settle in Essenheim, just south west of Mainz.
It took until the 1960's for Adam Braunewell to start bottling the wines from his family's vineyards and, today, he helps his children and grandchildren run this excellent estate and tend their flagship vineyards of Blume and Teufelspfad (the Devil's path!)
