2019 Bodega Colomé

Grapes Malbec
Colour Red
Origin Argentina, Salta
ABV 14%

Higher altitudes offer more sun, less UV protection and produce a thicker skinned grape that delivers a more robust taste with fresh acidity to support it. Today this wine is crafted with a minimalist approach – no oak influence so the “authentic” expression of Malbec highlights the terroir of the region.
This wine comes mostly from 100 year old vines combined with some fruit from a vineyard planted 15 years ago at 2300 metres of elevation. Intense and almost black in colour with violet hues, the nose highlights elegant spices and fresh floral aromas that lead to deeply rich flavours of black and red fruits, neatly accompanied by just enough bright acidity to keep the flow good.

This is from a very high altitude vineyard at 2300 m, and it has no oak influence, to try to let the place speak. It’s a rich, bold wine with sweet blackberry fruit and some black cherry aromatics. The palate is bold and dense with some tannic grip but also lovely richness: as well as the fresh fruit, there’s also amazing sleek, concentrated black fruits with some notes of chalk, fig and olive. Rating: 93 Jamie Goode, (Apr 2021)
