Brunello 'Albori' (dawn in Italian) is a special release to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Marcello taking over the family estate. This is a new wine that will be made going forward in great vintages. From the highest parcels of the estate and celebrating the vines that get the sun's first light in the morning. Albori is a special selection of he best Sangiovese - including some from the family's new acquisition of a beautiful vineyard at the highest point of Montalcino near the 'Passo del Lume Spento'. This early dawn light accelerates phenolic complexity without over-ripening the grapes. Albori represents a celebration of the past 30 years - but also celebrates dawn - and the dawning of the next chapter in the estates history. With a label designed by Marcello's daughter, Sara, Albori also celebrates the dawning of a new phase in the story here at this brilliant estate. Very Limited production. L&S (Mar 2025)

This is a small, 13-hectare estate, spread across the Southwest and Southeast of Montalcino. The winery (and some of these 13 hectares), sits in San Angelo in Colle on the southern side of the hill of Montalcino, nestling above the famous and rather larger Col d'Orcia vineyards (145 hectares). Winemaker Marcello Bucci is making wonderfully good wines which have rapidly increased both in quality and international recognition.
With his new winery now well and truly bedded in Marcello is thriving with the greater control and flexibility he now has - this is an estate going from strength to strength and the wines have a real true imprint of these beautiful rolling hills and Marcello's gentle manner. The wines from these vineyards are fuller and riper perhaps, than Fuligni or Padelletti. However, where there may be less lacy finesse, they more than compensate with indulgent joy, not to mention with their pricing. Collemattoni make some of the best value wines of the region.
