MAZOYÈRES CHAMBERTIN

2019 Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

EN PRIMEUR

Broad spicy ripe nose, so much more overt and expressive than the Chapelle for now. There's spice and savouriness. Broad and really fun in the middle - gourmand, still sleek, very persistent. Drinking range: 2030 - 2045L&S (Oct 2020)

Take every element of the other Perrot-Minot wines and combine them, add wildness, more exoticism and a sprinkling of flamboyance and you have Mazoyères-Chambertin. Near-perfect, this is one of the most amazing and heart-stoppingly beautiful wines of the vintage. Rating: 19.5+ Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jan 2021)

This is also agreeably fresh while displaying a bit more earth character on the ultra-spicy and very pretty mix of poached plum and red and dark berries, especially cherry. There is once again a lovely texture to the sappy, delicious and succulent broad-shouldered flavors that possess a fleshy mouthfeel, all wrapped in a lingering if slightly warm and youthfully austere finale. This is not as dense as the best of these grands crus, but I like the sense of harmony and overall complexity. Drinking range: 2031 - Rating: 92-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

Invariably one of Perrot-Minot's finest wines, the 2019 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru lives up to expectations, mingling aromas of wild berries and rose petals with hints of orange rind, exotic spices and beetroot. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, it's layered and velvety, with considerably incipient complexity and enough powdery tannin to balance the sucrosity of fruit that characterizes this ripe vintage. Rating: 94 - 96+ William Kelley, The Wine Advocate (Jan 2021)

Pretty, medium deep purple, maybe lighter than the Charmes or Chapelle. There is a precision here over and above the charm of Charmes a purity of deep red fruit that has the slight sweetness of ripeness about it, but finishes beautifully. Long, endearing finish. An opulence of sweet raspberry, but crystal clear cut. Tasted: November 2020 5/5 stars Rating: 95-98 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2021)

Seven barrels (from almost 2 ha). 50% whole bunch and main stem removed from 50% of the fruit (the Leroy technique). This was undertaken because the fruit is dense and Perrot-Minot wants to ‘decompact’ it. Cask sample. Very rich and sumptuous but lots of minerality too. Really very special. Bristles with life! Saline. Drinking range: 2027 - 2050 Rating: 18.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Dec 2020)

The 2019 Mazoyères-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has a really classy bouquet, perhaps more traditional in style compared to Perrot-Minot’s other Grand Crus, earthier with more sous-bois scents, but just as intense. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent, corpulent tannins that render this a very voluminous and mouth-filling Mazoyères. Maybe the Chapelle-Chambertin has more nervosité, though this boasts and extremely long aftertaste and a persuasive sense of grandeur. Drinking range: 2025 - 2055 Rating: 94-96 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2020)

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
