70% whole bunch. From above Clos de Tart. The first thing Virgile picked in this vintage, which is understandable as it is well exposed and on thin soil over rock. Drought was a problem here in 2020. Quite firm, with a certain punch, there's good stuff here but it needs to relax a little. Drinking range: 2026 - 2033 L&S (Oct 2020)

Vibrant, deep and impressive, I am particularly happy to report this because I have known this estate since the late nineties and this vineyard is a favourite of mine. Richer and layered, this is a superb Morey and I cannot recommend it enough (I am hoping it will be great value, too). Rating: 18 Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jan 2021)

(70% whole cluster). A slightly cooler though still liqueur-like nose features notes of black raspberry, violet and subtle spice influences. The sleek, delicious and very well-detailed flavors exude a subtle minerality that adds a sense of lift to the youthfully austere and equally refreshing finale. This too is really quite good and worth a look. Drinking range: 2026 - Rating: 89-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2021)

70% whole bunch. Another brisk purple colour. The fruit on the nose has a slightly less thick texture up here on the stones. Slightly high toned at the first. More red fruit here and very good length. Tasted: November 2020 4/5 stars Rating: 90-92 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Jan 2021)

Domaine Lignier-Michelot

A domaine of 11 hectares, 25% regionals, 50% Villages, 20% Premiers crus and 5% Grands Crus. Virgile Lignier worked at the domaine with his father Maurice from 1988, beginning to bottle some of the wine from 1992 (it had previously been sold to the négoce), taking over in 2000, which was the vintage when he first bottled all the domaine's production.

In the vineyard Virgile made significant changes, stopping the use of herbicides, and beginning to plough instead. Green harvesting to limits yields followed, along with greater attention to grape selection. The domaine works organically except in extremis.

The wines have a lovely combination of enough body and richness, combined with a lively clarity of expression. The old vines village cuvées are seriously good, and great value too. Going up the scale each site seems to speak very clearly of its source and there is a brightness and energy along with full, seamless fruit.
