The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot 1er Cru (Marquis de Laguiche) has a vibrant bouquet, orange pith mixed with grapefruit and light waxy scents, again, detailed and focused, demonstrating assiduous use of oak (although it does become more prominent with aeration). The palate is well-balanced with a pleasant rondeur on the entry, smooth and more honeyed than its peers, suggesting a slightly later picking. Yet it works well as a whole, and if you seek a richer style of Chassagne, then this is just the ticket. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Drinking range: 2025 - 2044 Rating: 92 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jul 2024)

A sleek white, with lime blossom, lemon cake and peach aromas and flavors framed by baking spices. Racy, gaining even greater precision as this winds down on the persistent finish. Shows terrific balance and length. Drink now through 2029. Drinking range: 2023 - 2029 Rating: 93 Bruce Sanderson, The Wine Spectator (May 2023)

A super-elegant Chassagne-Montrachet that offers all you want from this appellation, the balance of ripe-lemon character and flinty minerality spot-on. Super-silky and very graceful on the medium-to full-bodied palate. Then the finish doesn't want to stop. Drink or hold. Rating: 96 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Jul 2022)

(from Le Grand Clos and Vignes Blanches). A deft application of wood frames the overtly floral-suffused nose of petrol, white peach, lemon zest and subtle spice wisps. The medium-bodied flavors are also rich to the point of opulence, yet the firm acid spine saves the balance on the saliva-inducing, long and powerful finish. This fine effort is very Morgeot in character and worth a look. Drinking range: 2028 - Rating: 91-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2022)

Joseph Drouhin

Despite the size of their vineyard holding, not all Drouhin's wines come from their own domaine, but most of the other wines do come from long-term contracts, such as exists with the Marquis de Laguiche wines. In all but name these wines are 'Domaine' wines, and the vineyards are cared for and the wines vinified with exactly the same care.
