For the second year running this historic estate has produced a brilliant wine that has really caught our attention. David Suire who for years worked with Nicolas Thienpont at Larcis Ducasse is in charge and making spectacular wines. Merlot on the limestone plateau of St Emilion has been notable this year and tasting this you can see a perfect example of what is possible. Crisp and firm feel - beautiful dark berry fruit has cut and drive. This is serious and sophisticated with wonderfully polished tannins that give a perfect frame for the well-packed core of fine fruit, Its all here and will slowly develop with time - overwhelmingly there is a charming coolness here - as in the very best Right bank 2020s. L&S (May 2021)

The 2020 Laroque is even better than the en primeur sample. Dark and enveloping, with tons of class, Laroque is a winner. Succulent dark plum, gravel, spice, menthol, licorice and pipe tobacco give the 2020 tons of nuance. Laroque is class personified. Winemaker David Suire is doing important work here. Drinking range: 2027 - 2045 Rating: 96 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)

There is such incredible balance to this wine, with deftly expressed black and blue fruits, espresso, liqourice and cocoa bean shavings, all delivered slowly but surely through the palate, held in by sculpted tannins, and wet stone texture. This is my biggest upscore from En Primeur - I noted at the time that it was extremely closed, but it is now showing its incredible potential, and is a great value wine. David Suire director, owners Beaumartin family, 61ha of vines. Drinking range: 2025 - 2040 Rating: 95 Jane Anson, Decanter (Feb 2023)

The 2020 Laroque has a nose that has closed down a little since bottling, though the quality still shines through with blackberry and raspberry fruit, undergrowth, rose petals and light orange rind aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, sweet and candied with a plush finish. It just needs a little more grip and sapidity, though that should emerge with bottle age. Impressive. Drinking range: 2027 - 2047 Rating: 93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Feb 2023)
