This is pure merlot, with black chocolate, bark, black truffle, ripe plum, and violets. Some black olives. This is very structured and linear with super fine tannins that run very, very long. Dense silky texture. Less than 3,000 bottles made. 1.1 hectares in total. Needs five to six years of bottle age. Try after 2027. Rating: 97 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (May 2023)

The 2020 Enclos Tourmaline is a big, big wine. Blackberry jam, espresso, bittersweet chocolate, incense, tobacco and sweet French oak all race across the palate. This deep, brooding Pomerol packs a serious punch. The tannins, which were a bit intense en primeur, have started to integrate nicely. Seriously impressed with Pomerol in 2020, and this is another easy to love bottle. Plenty of grip, cocoa bean, espresso, crushed rocks, valvet tannins, no SO2 addition until after fermentation, 1.2ha, harvested entirely on September 16. The 2020 Enclos Tourmaline has an opulent bouquet with cassis, blueberry and violet scents, perhaps just missing the delineation of some of the top tier Pomerols. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, pure black fruit laced with rosemary and truffle, white pepper emerging towards the finish that is slightly candied.
