Vinified slowly over three weeks, Thibault did not want to to extract too hard. It's a delicate colour, fine and floral nose, with a nicely silky and voluminous feel. Thibault said he'd would probably bottle this before Christmas, which is early for him, to preserve this fresh delicacy. Drinking range: 2025 - 2033 L&S (Oct 2022)

Moderate reduction is enough to push the fruit to the background. Otherwise, there is good freshness and plenty of verve suffusing the sleek, attractively textured and delineation middleweight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the compact, lightly austere and impressively long finale that displays only a trace of rusticity. This is a very good Nuits villages and worth considering. Drinking range: 2028 - Rating: 89-91 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2023)

The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges La Charmotte has a well-defined bouquet with wild strawberry, mulberry, potters' wheel and crushed stone scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet ripe tannins, fleshy and harmonious, yet missing just a touch of grip and depth on the finish, so probably this is suitable for early drinking. Drinking range: 2024 - 2031 Rating: 87-89 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2023)

Quite a dense purple, almost black in the middle, with a concentrated plummy nose. A depth of fruit with crushed strawberries and some acidity. The 2021 La Charmotte flirts with volatility but still shows good energy. Some tension to finish. Drinking range: 2025 - 2028 Rating: *** 88-90 Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy  (Nov 2022)

Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair

Thibault Liger-Belair has two hectares in Les Saint Georges, the vineyard which gives Nuits the rest of its name, and 60 ares out of a total of 4 hectares of the Grand Cru Richebourg, as well as a good holding in the Clos Vougeot and some well-placed village wines. The vineyards are a good start, but it is Thibault himself who has catapulted this domaine straight into the very top echelons of Côte de Nuits domaines from his first vintage (2002). Thibault was trained as an oenologist but first worked as a wine buyer. He has come to wine making with a wide experience of wine buying, and has had the advantage of having discussed wine-making for many years, with the benefit of his oenological background, with some of the best winemakers of the world. Viticulture is biodynamic (since 2005), yields low but not ludicrously low, everything is pragmatic, so that he should be doing just what is necessary and no more. He uses 40-50% new wood maximum. The wines are bright, pure, focused, aromatic and elegant without lacking anything in the way of stuffing.
