The 2021 Malgagnes speaks of both its place and its vintage. Hailing from the 2021 vintage, it doesn't lack in refreshing acidity and is less fruit-filled than warmer years. But on the clay soils (with a limestone vein), it offers a sense of flesh while remaining only a tad more than light in body. It speaks of low yields in its concentration and has an abundance of powdery tannins that coats the palate. The oak (80% in 450L casks, 20% in sandstone eggs) is well judged and, while clear in its cedar and mocha notes, is not out of place. With another year or two in bottle, it will further integrate. It's not the longest-lived Malgagnes, but it's still a very good site and a carefully-made wine. Drinking range: 2024 - 2030 Rating: 91 Rebecca Gibb MW - Vinous.com (Dec 2023)

This feels bright and more expressive on the nose, with raspberry notes and lightly grilled edges to the dark fruits. The palate is fresh and correct, with a softer wrapping of raspberry and blackcurrant fruits around a more grained and grippy core of tannins, which take the rather softly structured palate to the finish. This feels much more shaped by the barrels, and I prefer the Amphore version today, but will my opinion be reversed in five or ten years time I wonder. Rating: 90 Chris Kissack, www.thewinedoctor.com (Oct 2023)
Scented with dark cherries, dark plums, black pepper, earth, dried herbs, flowers and gravel. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins. Textural and well-balanced. Dense and velvety with a flavorful finish and good length. Drink or hold. James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Jun 2023)
Domaine Yannick Amirault
Yannick Amirault took over three and a half hectares of vines from his grandfather 30 years ago, and today with his son Benoit works 12 hectares in Bourgeuil and 7 in St-Nicholas-de-Bourgeuil. The vineyards have been worked organically for 15 years and have been certified Organic since 2009. The family are seriously talented in the cellar and not shy of trying new things - the new Malgagnes cuvée which ages in their special Jarres are testament to this. Everything is hand harvested and hard work in the vineyards means only the very best fruit is brought in. Only natural yeasts are used, with fermentations being allowed as long as they need. These wines are crisp and bright with a dramatic purity - made as naturally as possible but without having any unsatisfactory 'natural' traits. Incredible quality here across the range.
Loire Mixed Case
The Loire Valley holds many vineyard treasures and many styles of wine along the river’s considerable length. This mixed case captures that journey six exceptional wines, two bottles of each for an in-depth tour of a region that's as dynamic as it is delicious.
