From one of Bourgueil's most sought after 'terroirs'; Le Grand Clos is a small walled parcel of 50 year old vines grown on the clay and flint covered limestone slopes facing the town. The wine spends a year in (50% new) oak, and is always the deepest and most structured of the wines from this prized estate. L&S (Oct 2024)

From what is surely the domaine’s flagship terroir, the fruit for this cuvée was picked by hand, then fermented in wooden cuves, before an élevage in 75% barrel and 25% stoneware jarres. This has only recently been blended and bottled. Despite this the nose has a well-defined expression, with a finessed core of dark fruit, particularly black cherry, with rose petals and violets. The palate is polished and similarly finessed, with a fine grain of tannins underpinning a delicate blanket of dark cherry, rose and black pepper. The tannic structure feels more apparent through the middle, but these tannins feel appropriately dense, well-knit and ripe. A very primary composition, but with good integration, and a long tannic persistence, as the fruit slowly fades. Rating: 92 Chris Kissack, www.thewinedoctor.com (Dec 2024)

This wine isn’t to be rushed; it’s to be sipped and savored. The silky Bourgueil caresses your inner cheeks with rich black fruit including black plum, black cherry and raspberry. The midpalate is luxurious with the faintest hints of vanilla baking spice riding along the length of the taste. Rating: 94 The Wine Enthusiast www.winemag.com (Oct 2024)

Domaine Yannick Amirault

Yannick Amirault took over three and a half hectares of vines from his grandfather 30 years ago, and today with his son Benoit works 12 hectares in Bourgeuil and 7 in St-Nicholas-de-Bourgeuil. The vineyards have been worked organically for 15 years and have been certified Organic since 2009. The family are seriously talented in the cellar and not shy of trying new things - the new Malgagnes cuvée which ages in their special Jarres are testament to this. Everything is hand harvested and hard work in the vineyards means only the very best fruit is brought in. Only natural yeasts are used, with fermentations being allowed as long as they need. These wines are crisp and bright with a dramatic purity - made as naturally as possible but without having any unsatisfactory 'natural' traits. Incredible quality here across the range.
