CHÂTEAU DU CÈDRE
2022 Cahors Pascal Verhaeghe
| Grapes | Merlot, Tannat, Malbec |
| Colour | Red |
| Origin | France, South West |
| Sub-district | Cahors |
| ABV | 13% |
A delightfully rich and spicy red with great structure. The inclusion of Tannat in the blend gives it a deep inky blackberry quality that delights now, but will also get better with time. Smokey notes abound, and there is a quality of dried plum and fig. The Merlot in the blend adds a touch of redcurrant that softens it all up and makes it very drinkable. Enjoy now, or keep for a couple of years. L&S (Oct 2025)

Chateau du Cèdre, widely regarded as one of Cahors' leading estate, is the domaine of brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe. Pascal, a mathematician at heart who came to winemaking later in life, is the driving force here. Although the son of a winemaker - his father founded the domaine in 1956 - he took little interest in the daily running of the vineyards and making wines until his experiences in Burgundy, making wines with Jean-Marie Guffens, swayed his opinion.
