Made entirely from Cabernet Franc, this charming wine, with an intense aroma of raspberries and woodland undergrowth, is light on its feet, but not without firmness and structure. Admittedly delicious now, it will gain an extra dimension with another 12-24 months' ageing. Harry Eyres (Dec 2024)

The 2022 Les Grézeaux opens with a surprisingly restrained nose filled with the scents of red cherry, peony and candied redcurrant, nuanced with richer notes of dark chocolate and toast. The palate feels overtly structured but also textured, voluptuous – as you should expect in the 2022 vintage – but also grained with a dry tannic structure which keeps the texture under control. Lots of grip here, lots of acid freshness as well, in what is a bold style. A massive grip at the end too. This is one for the cellar, and Matthieu agrees – he predicts it will need twenty years. Domaine Bernard Baudry

Bernard Baudry was born into a Chinon winemaking family in Cravant-les-Côteaux, Loire. Having studied oenology in Beaune, he started making his own wines in 1982, with only two hectares of vines. Today the estate is made up of 30 hectares, from six different sites, all of which are worked without the use of artificial herbicides or pesticides. His wines reflect the great versatility of Cabernet Franc when grown on different sites and are very much 'terroir' driven. Matthieu, his son has been working with Bernard since 2000 and now does most of the wine-making - the tradition continues. Beautiful wines, purely made, crisp and juicy Cabernet Franc.
