They have a lease for three more years on this vineyard which changed hands recently and they’re now managing the vines themselves to good effect. 25% new oak. Very pale straw. Rich and quite intense. With some savour and vibrancy. Lots of grip.Very bright fruit with good appeal and perhaps a bit less obviously sweet than in the past. Drinking range: 2024 - 2030 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Sept 2023)

This wine is produced from a vineyard owned by Tim and Angela Coddington, whose grapes have contributed to the blend of Kumeu River Estate Chardonnay since 1998. It is a vineyard that produces very rich and unctuous Chardonnay that we have long believed could make an excellent single vineyard wine. In 2006, we decided to give Coddington single vineyard status to reflect this vineyard’s unique character. Harvested in perfect conditions the 2022 Coddington shows a step up from what we have seen in the past from this vineyard.

VINIFICATION Hand harvested Whole-bunch pressed Indigenousyeast fermentation 100% barrel fermentation 100% malo-lactic fermentation 11 months maturation in barrel

Kumeu's Tasting Notes
Coddington Chardonnay 2022 is beautifully ripe in the yellow peach and apricot spectrum, with a background of toasted oak and caramelized hazelnut. It is the biggest style in our range, and satisfyingly rich as such, but also nicely balanced with its acidity.
Winemaker's notes (Sept 2023)

The 2022 Coddington Chardonnay has breadth and depth. Its rounded and shapely curves seem to shimmy as if it was comfortably settling onto a bean bag, finding its place. Honeysuckle, pear and melon meet spiced oak. The concluding texture is well considered and cleverly done with tension. The new oak (25%) provides a corset for the wine to sit within and tightens it up, as if the wine is held by a pair of control pants. Drinking range: 2023 - 2033 Rating: 93 Rebecca Gibb MW - Vinous.com (Sept 2023)

Kumeu River

From the pioneering days to the establishment of the New Zealand wine industry to today, the Brajkovich family have been internationally recognised as producing world class wine. The Brajkovich family continue to harvest their grapes at Kumeu and refine their wine making skills.

The Brajkovichs are nationally recognised as a founding family of the New Zealand wine industry, and the current generation are internationally recognised as producing world class Chardonnay.

Just as the Brajkovich family has grown, so too has the winery itself. Extensions and additions mark the milestones that have seen business adapt and expand over the years. Today, the winery produces around 250,000 bottles annually from 30 hectares of its own vineyards in Kumeu, and another 10 hectares from local growers.
