This is 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. A rather fresh and bright style on the nose, with yellow plum, peach and mango, and layers of crushed mineral. The palate reflects this character, with plenty of bitter substance, sweet mango and peach fruits, framed by delicious acidity and a pithy substance, as well as a floral freshness redolent of white freesia and white peach flower. This is such a delightful composition, with good bitterness and frame to the fruit, and the finish is deliciously long as well. A super Doisy-Védrines this year, with a fresh, acid-defined style which washed through the finish. Tasted twice. The residual sugar is 150 g/l, and the alcohol is 14.2%. Rating: 94-96 Chris Kissack, www.thewinedoctor.com (May 2024)

The 2023 Doisy-Védrines is floral, elegant and classy. Jasmine, orange confit, mint, chamomile and lightly honeyed, floral overtones all grace this utterly exquisite, beguiling Barsac. Terrific. Drinking range: 2028 - 2053 Rating: 92-94 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (May 2024)

A focused and pure Sauternes with sliced-apricot and orange character, as well as apple pie and light caramel. Spicy. Medium-bodied, sweet and flavorful. Very pretty and true. Rating: 93-94 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2024)

Château Doisy Védrines

Barsac Deuxième cru 1855 As one might expect, there was originally one Doisy estate. Sometime in the earlier 19th Century, it was divided into three parts - two smaller parts were sold to the Dubroca brothers and Jean-Jacques Emmanuel Daëne becoming the rarely encountered Château Doisy-Dubroca and Château Doisy-Daëne respectively, whilst the larger proportion became Château Doisy-Védrines. In 1851, it was purchased by the Boireau family who's descendents the, Castéja family, own Doisy-Védrines to this day. Around 30ha of vineyard are planted with 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation is in stainless-steel before and 18 month aging period in oak, of which 70% is new. Doisy-Védrines is a richer rounder style than Doisy-Daëne. Interestingly, although entitled to the Barsac appellation, the wines are always labelled as Sauternes.
