DANCER IN PINK
2023 Rosé Black Chalk
Grapes | Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Précoce |
Colour | Rosé |
Origin | United Kingdom, England |
ABV | 12% |
Fruit forward and fun. Red juicy, crunchy fruit and the fore from the Pinot Precoce, with some gentle pear and spice coming through from the Pinot Gris. Good minerality underpinning the fruit, with really appetising tacky tannins. A joy. L&S (Sept 2024)

Vintage Report 2023 was an interesting year for growing grapes; June was confirmed as the hottest on record, followed by a cold and lacklustre summer with rainfall records broken. An early September heatwave saw temperatures exceeding 30°C in Hampshire for a run of seven consecutive days, a UK record. Ripeness levels were lower than average, as were acids, but yields were good + the overall quality of fruit was excellent.
Tasting Notes We use a fine clone of Pinot Noir 779 alongside whole bunch pressed and co-fermented Pinot Precoce and Pinot Gris to craft our Dancer. It’s a gorgeously dry and fresh rosé, with bright aromas of ripe strawberry and cherry blossom. The palate provides a beautiful abundance of red fruits and peach with a classic Black Chalk crunchy finish. Laid back yet intensely moreish, a wine made for endless summers. The possibilities are endless when it comes to food matching with Dancer in Pink. Lazy lunches with smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels is a great start or pop a bottle on ice to have with BBQ belly pork and summer caesar salad.Winemaker's notes (Sep 2024)
Black Chalk
Black Chalk is the passion project of Jacob Leadley. Started in 2015, who started making wines in this beautiful corner of the Test Valley in Hampshire when he was still making wine at Hattingley. The first wines were released in 2018, and in 2020 his assistant at Hattingley, Zoe Driver, joined him and they've never looked back
Here, they are making some of the most exciting wines in England, in a meticulous and charmingly nerdy fashion. Across the 4 vineyards they own, they are working with 34 clones of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Précoce, and Pinot Gris, each with their own profile. However, most important of all is the solid chalk found beneath the shallow soils here. Many fishermen will recognise the Test Valley, famed for its chalk streams, but this great hunk of chalk beneath the vineyards is key to the purity and precision found in these wines.
We are incredibly excited to be working with these elegant, unique wines, made by a small but incredibly passionate team.
