This tiny production Grolleau is a real curio from Matthieu Baudry. The family tried 'own-rooted' cabernet Franc vines here - and made some glorious bottles which we have been lucky enough to share, but sadly they just did not survive. The family were keen to continue this historic planting - and now work with Grolleau as it seems to be more hardy on its own roots. The Vines are now ten-years-old and remain ungrafted or 'franc de pied'. This small sandy parcel is on the banks of the Vienne, a tributary to the Loire and the tiny crop makes a very small amount of this joyful juice. Grolleau has been grown in the Loire valley for years - but now represents a more jolly and fun style from this esteemed estate. At just 10% alcohol this is a bottle you can chill and enjoy over the summer. Quantities are absolutely tiny so grab it while you can! L&S (Jul 2025)

Domaine Bernard Baudry
Bernard Baudry was born into a Chinon winemaking family in Cravant-les-Côteaux, Loire. Having studied oenology in Beaune, he started making his own wines in 1982, with only two hectares of vines. Today the estate is made up of 30 hectares, from six different sites, all of which are worked without the use of artificial herbicides or pesticides. His wines reflect the great versatility of Cabernet Franc when grown on different sites and are very much 'terroir' driven. Matthieu, his son has been working with Bernard since 2000 and now does most of the wine-making - the tradition continues. Beautiful wines, purely made, crisp and juicy Cabernet Franc.
