80 M 15 CF 5 PV Some earthy smoky spice notes of oak. Dried black fruit and herbs. Seriously extracted and with powerful tannins but not quite enough fruit weight to support them for me. Give this quite some time in the bottle. Rating: 88 Rod Smith MW, www.timatkin.com (Apr 2025)

The 2024 Couvent des Jacobins is impressive. Dark and enveloping, with fine balance, Couvent des Jacobins is a standout. Blackberry, lavender, licorice, chocolate, new leather and spice fill out the layers in a broad, creamy Saint-Émilion. All the elements are so well balanced. There is something quite lactic here that reminds me of salted caramels and a hint of goat cheese. The fruit is solid, showing decent concentration from this lighter vintage. Inky plum in colour, as is often the case with this excellent estate, and it maintains its signature expression in 2024.
