The 2024 Doisy-Védrines does not possess the same level of complexity as the Doisy-Daëne on the nose, although it is clean and fresh with wild honey, peach skin and saffron scents. I would like to see more vigor. The palate is balanced and quite linear, with a touch of peach mixed with apricot and pear. It's less unctuous than historical vintages, though vibrant from start to finish. This is an early drinking but still very appealing Barsac. Drinking range: 2027 - 2050 Rating: 91-93 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2025)
An unctuous, delicious and medium-sweet Sauternes. Medium-bodied with medium acidity. Nice fruit, a caressing texture and a juicy expression on the finish. Rating: 93-94 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2025)
84 Sem 14 SB 2 Muscadelle Rich cream and pastry aromas with honey and ginger. Packed and deep flavours with rich sugar (est. 135 g/L) and honeyed complexity. Long ripe finish with good marmalade botrytis. Rating: 90 Rod Smith MW, www.timatkin.com (Apr 2025)
Château Doisy Védrines
Barsac Deuxième cru 1855 As one might expect, there was originally one Doisy estate. Sometime in the earlier 19th Century, it was divided into three parts - two smaller parts were sold to the Dubroca brothers and Jean-Jacques Emmanuel Daëne becoming the rarely encountered Château Doisy-Dubroca and Château Doisy-Daëne respectively, whilst the larger proportion became Château Doisy-Védrines. In 1851, it was purchased by the Boireau family who's descendents the, Castéja family, own Doisy-Védrines to this day. Around 30ha of vineyard are planted with 85% Semillon and 15% Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation is in stainless-steel before and 18 month aging period in oak, of which 70% is new. Doisy-Védrines is a richer rounder style than Doisy-Daëne. Interestingly, although entitled to the Barsac appellation, the wines are always labelled as Sauternes.
