The 2024 La Conseillante is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage. Vertical and explosive, with spectacular depth, the 2024 is an eye-opening wine, with regard to both the potential of the property and the vintage. In 2024, La Conseillante separates itself from the pack by a wide margin. It may ultimately not merit the very highest of scores, but it will almost certainly come close. Dark blue fruit, violet, spice, new leather, menthol and licorice stain the palate all the way through the creamy finish. Conseillante is a very serious wine. Technical Director Marielle Cazaux made all the right choices in a very challenging year in which yields were reduced by 50% in the field and then through strict selection in the cellar. Tasted two times. Drinking range: 2034 - 2054 Rating: 95-98 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (May 2025)

80 Merlot, 20 Cabernet Franc: 70% new oak and 30% in second-fill barrels: 13.5% alc: 22 hl/ha: 3.57 pH: Merlot was harvested on the 20, 23, 24 and 25 September, and Cabernet Franc was harvested on 1 and 4 October Marielle Cazaux was typically frank about the ruthless sorting and elimination of sub-standard fruit she and her team carried out in 2024. A Densilys bath was used at La Conseillante, and the result was that 20% of ‘garbage’ was thankfully left out of this magnificent wine. The result is a simply jaw-dropping creation, with such harmony and poise that they decided to blend it very early in its life! This wine was physically combined on the 15th of January, and the 70% new oak plays a stunning role here, providing the stage and its astoundingly detailed tenon and mortise joints, which form the perfect platform on which this wine performs. It is not often that I sing about the process of élévage, but it is electrifying here. Approximately half the normal production was made at La Conseillante, and this historically low yield of only 21600 bottles will most likely become known as this vintage’s gold dust, such is the class and breeding of this wine. As you will know, if you have scoured my 2024 En Primeur notes, there are very few wines that have approached the 20-mark. This is one of the most likely to elevate to perfection if the élévage curve continues uninterrupted. Rating: 19.5+ Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Jun 2025)
Dark cherry in colour, vivid, the fruits have beautiful clarity on the aromatics and the opening notes, and density through the palate. Velvety texture with lift, cocoa bean, espresso, damson, excellent quality. Michel Rolland consultant., 100% new oak, 85% of production in La Conseillante. One of the success stories in Pomerol. Harvest 20 September to 4 October, 30hl/ha when it came in from the vineyard, 22hl/h after density sorting. 3.57ph, Drinking range: 2030 - 2050 Rating: 94 Jane Anson, Decanter (May 2025)
The 2024 La Conseillante was picked over six days at 22 hl/ha between September 20 and October 4. This has a clean and focused bouquet, with quite pure scents of blackberry, boysenberry and light blueberry. This is clearly without the flamboyance of a warming vintage, yet with ample freshness and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied and balanced, with slightly grainy yet fine tannins. This is a La Conseillante that wisely stays within its means. Quite strict on the finish, it's a nimble Pomerol that will drink earlier than say, the 2020, 2022 or 2023. Drinking range: 2028 - 2048 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2025)
Château La Conseillante
Château la Conseillante’s origins lay in an estate called Domaine de Mautretat that was broken up in the early years of the 18th Century with reverend gentleman called M. Léglise purchasing the part that became Château l’Evangile whilst Catherine Conseillan took the other. In 1871 Château la Conseillante was bought by the Nicolas family who own it to this day. With only the addition of a small plot of vines in 2014, the estate has remained the same ever since. The 12ha of vineyard are planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The vineyards border Petrus to the north, and one can gaze across l’Evangile and see the vines of Château Cheval Blanc. Indeed, a small part of la Conseillante’s vineyard strays across into St Emilion, but is included in the main Pomerol cuvée. Château la Conseillante is a well-executed balancing act marrying tradition with modernity, something exemplified by the new cellar that opened in 2012.
