The 2024 Nénin is redolent of dark cherry, plum, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and new leather. The strong presence of Cabernets, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, in this vintage yields a Grand Vin that is quite different in style and personality from the Fugue. That has not always been the case. I have to say, this style for Nénin is quite appealing. The 2024 is a touch slender—that is inescapable—but the direction here is extremely positive. Drinking range: 2029 - 2044 Rating: 91-93 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2025)

Black cherry and damson fruit, feels like it has reached a good level of maturity, even traces of cocoa bean and espresso. No chaptilisation. Mikaël Georges technical director, 40% new oak. 3.64 pH. 35 hl/ha. 5.3% press wine. Harvest 18 September to 2 October. Drinking range: 2029 - 2040 Rating: 91 Jane Anson, www.janeanson.com (May 2025)

The 2024 Nenin includes 8% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on gravel soils, and is aged for 16 months in 40% new oak. It has a tertiary bouquet at first and takes a few swirls of the glass to find its feet, but touches of black plum and incense finally emerge. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. The fleshy mid-palate gives way to a lightly spiced finish with a splash of soy. This should be quite approachable once bottled, and drink for ten to twelve years. Drinking range: 2027 - 2039 Rating: 89-91 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (May 2025)

Château Nénin

Two things make Château Nenin standout from the rest of Pomerol – at 32ha it is considerably larger than most in in this crowded appellation; and Nenin has a real bona fide 19th Century château at its core rather than the more usual small shed. Infact it appears more along the lines of something one might find in the Haut-Médoc which is perhaps fitting as, since 1987, it has been in common ownership with Château Potensac and the great Saint Julien estate of Château Leoville Las Cases. As one might expect with such a noble stable-mate, quality has advanced rapidly in line with a lot of healthy investment in the estate. The vineyards are planted with 78% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon with an average age of around 30 years. The second wine is Fugue de Nenin.
