The Seguin wines are so easy going and deliver such drinking pleasure. This is textbook with gun-flint, gooseberry and freshly mown grass with an undercut of something a little more tropical. Supple and fresh in the mouth with a lovely cut of citrus, aromatic herbs and a delicate flinty/chalkiness. This would be a dream with some trout stuffed with dill and lemon. L&S (Sept 2025)

Domaine Hervé Séguin

A 17 hectare family property just half a mile east of Pouilly-sur-Loire. Philippe, part of the the third generation to work the estate is quietly spoken but has a firm hand on how he wants to do things. Traditional viticulture reigns here and fuss-free vinification. After débourbage a long cool fermentation (4 weeks at 17C) is followed by a short period on the lees with three batonnages to fill out the palate. The wine, which is bottled in the March after the harvest, has super fruit character (citrus notes, pink grapefruit and pineapple) and also the typical “gun flint” flavour you'd hope to find here - which goes remarkably well with seafood, fish with butter sauce, and goat's cheese.

  • CRÉMANT DE LOIRE ROSÉ Brut, Domaine des Hauts Perrays: A traditional method sparkling wine made from Cabernet Franc and Grolleau. It offers fine bubbles, a pale pink hue, and notes of crushed wild strawberry with a crisp, pastry-like finish.

  • 2024 SANCERRE Silex Chavignol, Domaine Vincent Delaporte: A 100% Sauvignon Blanc sourced from the pure-flint soils of Chavignol. Expect a precise, citrus-driven palate underpinned by smoky minerality and a long, chalky finish.

  • 2023 ANJOU Blanc, Château de Plaisance: A biodynamically farmed 100% Chenin Blanc from the dark volcanic schist of the Anjou Noir. It balances a creamy mid-palate with fierce, tangy acidity and dried apple aromatics.

  • 2023 CHINON Les Granges, Domaine Bernard Baudry: A masterclass in elegance from a 100% Cabernet Franc vineyard. This red displays a supple, silky texture with ripe red berries and a refreshing graphite edge.

  • 2022 SAINT NICOLAS DE BOURGUEIL La Source, Domaine Yannick Amirault: An organically farmed 100% Cabernet Franc grown on sandy-gravel terraces. It is wonderfully open, delivering crushed raspberries and delicate, peppery spice.

  • 2024 POUILLY-FUMÉ, Domaine Hervé Seguin: A textbook 100% Sauvignon Blanc expression offering crisp green apple, gooseberry, and distinct gunflint tension.
