As with 2023, this is easy to mark out as one of the super stars of the vintage. Just 3 barrels made, with so many levels it could be called a skyscraper. The 2024 isn't about sheer power, but it a serious wine and make up for any loss of density with enchanting aromatics and a freshness which pulls out the finish for ages. L&S (Nov 2025)

Three barrels made. An even clear mid purple colour. The bouquet is exquisite, a testimony to the berry-by-berry process as much as the vineyard. Sensual up front, much more solid behind, even a slight chocolate note, while the tannins are fine and well integrated. An immaculate Richebourg. The 2024 Richebourg Grand Cru was completely de-stemmed by hand this year. It has a delectable bouquet with well-defined red berry fruit, crushed stone, wilted rose petals and just a hint of potpourri. Beautifully defined, it gains more and more intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, wonderful transparency and it gently rolls out to a poised and slightly peppery finish. Not a powerful Richebourg and for some it might lack a bit of grandeur, yet it is exquisite. Drinking range: 2028 - 2048 Rating: 94-96 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Jan 2026)

There is enough wood to merit pointing out on the elegant, spicy and ripe aromas of mostly dark berries and discreet floral nuances. The delicious, vibrant and attractively textured if not especially dense flavors possess fine complexity on the dusty, youthfully austere and balanced finale where a touch of minerality slowly emerges. This has the stuffing to repay mid to even longer-term keeping though it’s already sufficiently round that it could be reasonably enjoyed after 6 to 8 years, which is early for Richebourg. Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair

Thibault Liger-Belair has two hectares in Les Saint Georges, the vineyard which gives Nuits the rest of its name, and 60 ares out of a total of 4 hectares of the Grand Cru Richebourg, as well as a good holding in the Clos Vougeot and some well-placed village wines. The vineyards are a good start, but it is Thibault himself who has catapulted this domaine straight into the very top echelons of Côte de Nuits domaines from his first vintage (2002). Thibault was trained as an oenologist but first worked as a wine buyer. He has come to wine making with a wide experience of wine buying, and has had the advantage of having discussed wine-making for many years, with the benefit of his oenological background, with some of the best winemakers of the world. Viticulture is biodynamic (since 2005), yields low but not ludicrously low, everything is pragmatic, so that he should be doing just what is necessary and no more. He uses 40-50% new wood maximum. The wines are bright, pure, focused, aromatic and elegant without lacking anything in the way of stuffing.
