Saignée from Bouzy grand cru.
Bumptious and brazen with a saucy little sneer of Campari-like bitters. I like the little tug of bitter orange, wormwood, rose hip and hot white pepper with a slick of strawberry syrup. Rambunctious fun. Solid. Proper barbecue champagne! You could easily pair this with smoky chipotle-marinaded ribs. A blend of 85% Pinot Noir and 15% Chardonnay, the NV Brut Rosé Authentique is the best wine in this in this range, once again. Ample and resonant, with terrific persistence, the Authentique is immediately captivating. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, blood orange, pomegranate and dried rose petals infuse this cuvée with tons of character. I loved it. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: October 5, 2022. The NV Brut Authentique Rosé Vin de Gastronomie is dynamic and vibrant in the glass, with a real feeling of energy that lifts the flavors. Freshly cut flowers, sweet red berry fruit, chalk, mint and blood orange all grace this super-expressive, inviting Rosé from Barnaut. A dollop of Bouzy Chardonnay (10-15%) adds lift and aromatic brightness. This is such a gorgeous and compelling Champagne. Disgorged: March 2, 2020. Champagne Barnaut

Edmond Barnaut was a grape-grower and wine-broker when in 1873 he married the daughter of an old Bouzy family, Apolline Godmé-Barancourt. Using his own and his wife's vineyards he created his own marque and began selling bottles the following year. Philippe and Laurette Secondé took over in 1985, and they have now been joined by their son Guillaume Secondé, the 5th generation of the Barnaut family. After 150 harvests, Guillaume's return to the domaine, gradually taking his spot as "future chef" for the 6th generation.

The Secondés make well-aged Champagnes (five years average for the Grande Réserve) which are very representative of the full-bodied style of Bouzy - the excellent Pinot Noir of the village's Grand Cru Vineyards providing the backbone (2/3) of the Grande Réserve and all of the Blanc de Noirs. As Philippe puts it 'I want to express our exceptional terroir, naturally and simply, without artifice and without giving in to fashions.'.

The domaine is certified for High Environmental Value (HVE) and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC).
