MARC HÉBRART

Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 1er Cru

IN STOCK
Grapes Chardonnay
Colour White
Origin France, Champagne
Classification 1er Cru
ABV 12.5%

Chardonnay from premiers crus vineyards in Grande Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. Grande Vallée de la Marne is Pinot terroir and, I'm told, the Chardonnay is deeper as a result. This is a blend of 2019 and 2020. Disgorged 18 October 2022.
I literally got the smell of toasted panini when I lifted the glass to my nose. I even looked around to check: no, no one was eating toasted panini. Then leafiness: rocket greens, basil, bay leaf. A transparent texture, like a lemon bonbon, sucked see-through. Candy-striped. Pineapple. Masses of tropical fruit that is absolutely high-wired to the hilt with acidity. A glorious tango of fruit with impeccable acidity. I love it! GV

100% chardonnay, 10% from Oiry and Chouilly, 90% from Mareuil-sur-Ay; 70% 2019, 10% 2018, 20% 2017; 6g/L dosage of MCR; disgorged 14 September 2022 (on back label)

The precision of Hebrart defines a particularly elegant and mineral take on Mareuil chardonnay, with a pale straw hue, built on a core of fresh nashi pear and grapefruit. Gentle saline minerality, well balanced acidity and understated dosage work seamlessly to support a style of brightness and fruit presence. It's graceful, persistent and delicious.

Rating: 94 Tyson Stelzer - The Champagne Guide (Jul 2024)

Hebrart’s blanc de blancs is a curious mix of Chardonnays, 91% coming from the home village Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and rest grands crus Côte des Blancs, where family also has significant holdings. The pronounced nose greets you with fine, slightly tropically toned fruit. aromas show lemon zest grapefruit, certain appetizing grapefruit bitterness present on wide, profound palate. Pretty fruitiness good volume fruit-forward Such solid great-value blancs, fifth both 2018 2019 complementing 2020 base year. Blanc de blancs 1er cru – Tirage 2021 10% Chardonnay Oiry, Chouilly Grand Cru 90% Chardonnay Mareuil sur Ay Cuvée uniquement Dosage BRUT MCR : 6 Gr - EXTRA BRUT MCR : 4 Gr Rating: 92 Essi Avellan MW, Club Oenologique (Jun 2024)

The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is built on a base of fruit from Mareuil, with dollops of Oiry and Chouilly. It offers good up front intensity and almost Pinot-like expression of breath. Plum, lemon confit, spice and dried flowers all open effortlessly. The mid-palate and finish lose some of that initial exuberance, and yet there is plenty to admire here. All things considered, this is a solid value. Disgorged: November 23, 2021. Drinking range: 2022 - 2028 Rating: 90 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (May 2022)

Champagne Marc Hébrart

Marc Hébrart started making his own Champagne in 1962, and the domaine is now run by Jean-Paul, who took over in 1997. Jean-Paul tries to add to the family holdings every year, believing that even at current prices it's still a good long-term bet. He's currently running 16 hectares, 8 ha of Pinot in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Chardonnay in Oiry, Avize, Chouilly and Cramant, and more Pinot in Louvois and Aÿ - as well as the Clos le Léon in Dizy: in total 80 parcels in 11 villages.

The vineyards are farmed sustainably, with as little input as possible. Vinification is by parcel to give the widest possible palette when it comes to blending, and or course allowing for single-vineyard releases like the Clos Léon, a rare walled Clos in the village of Dizy. Most of the Champagnes are made in stainless steel, but since 2004 there has been a barrel-fermented cuvée which blends some of his Chardonnays on the Côte de Blancs with some of his best Pinot Noirs to the north of the Marne - 'Rive Droite-Rive Gauche'.
