Elegant nose of red apple and lime. On the palate the acidity is high but not excessive. Crisp but with a lovely mouth feel, the flavours include spiced apple, sweet quince with some pleasant autolytic notes of brioche lingering in the background. This was sampled at a vertical tasting which included a Blanc de Blanc from 1992. The flavours and complexity it had gathered over time was extraordinary and suggests the 2009 can go the distance. Winemaker Cherie Spriggs regardS this as the strongest vintage so far calling it a 'text book year.' The team used a small component of oak fermented juice. The aim was to gain some spice rather than oxidative flavours in the final wine. With the 2009 the wine did go through a Malolactic Fermentation. L&S (Mar 2016)

Like L&S in 2018 Nyetimber are celebrating an important 30th anniversary. In 1988 as Lea & Sandeman was founded, the vines were being planted here in West Sussex. Few vineyards in England are better placed to exploit the similarity between the soils of the South Downs and those of the Champagne region in France than Nyetimber in West Sussex. But it took a couple from Chicago - Stuart and Sandy Moss - to bring the dream to life when they bought Nyetimber Manor in 1986. Vineyards followed from 1988 onwards, and the first vintage released was the 1992.
Nyetimber is now owned by Eric Heerema who already owned a vineyard in West Sussex when he bought Nyetimber in 2006 and had already identified more land for planting. All were amalgamated into Nyetimber which, now, comprises some 350 acres, all planted to Chardonnay and the Pinots Noir and Meunier, making it at the time the biggest vineyard in England.
