LUPICAIA

2010 Castello del Terriccio

Grapes Merlot, Cab Sauv
Colour Red
Origin Italy, Tuscany
ABV 14%

The 2010 Lupicaia is another fruit-forward vintage, showing great intensity and depth. What makes this wine unique is its streamlined and focused nature. Overall, it is a ripe, generous and very intense wine with rich flavors and concentration. The integrated tannins are dusty and fine. It would pair well with rich and gamey meats like liver, innards or venison. Drinking range: 2019 - 2030 Rating: 95 Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate (www.robertparker.com) (May 2019)

What a pleasure it is to taste the 2010 Lupicaia. Fresh and brilliant on the palate, the 2010 boasts superb energy and precision throughout. Rose petal, mint and succulent red-fleshed fruit are all beautifully delineated. The flavors remain quite youthful and vibrant, with little in the way of aromatic nuance. Readers will have to be patient, but there is little doubt the 2010 is a stellar wine with considerable potential. With time in the glass, the 2010 becomes richer, darker and more powerful, hinting at what lies ahead. Drinking range: 2017 - 2030 Rating: 95 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Jun 2015)

Castello del Terriccio

The Castello del Terriccio is beautifully positioned around twenty-five kilometres north of Bolgheri, with commanding views towards Corsica. The 60 hectares of vines enjoy wonderful exposure, overlooking the sea, benefitting from its brightness and cooling breezes. The vineyards are surrounded by 'maquis' and eucalyptus trees, which as well as protecting them, also contribute to the aromas and scents that so characterise the Terriccio wines.

Planted predominately with Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah, the wines are made by consultant oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who has to date brought thirteen 'Tre Bicchiere' awards to the estate.

These are wines that can be approached almost immediately and yet age so well over a decade and more.

The estate continues in the hands of Vittorio Piozzo di Rosignano Rossi di Medelana who took over after the extraordinarily charming Cav. Gian Annibale Rossi di Medelana Serafini Ferri (or 'Pucci' as he was fondly known) who died at the end of 2019. Vittorio has the same team around him working in the cellars and the vineyards and the estate is going from strength to strength.
