Some wet wool on the nose. And lots of residual sugar. Firm and rich. A wine to take notice of, not to sip. Drinking range: 2014 - 2019 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jul 2016)

Notes of quinine, alkali, as well as iris and rowan in the nose of Deiss’s maximally multi-cepage 2011 Burg, and their subtly bitter and intriguing counterparts emerge on a polished, silken palate. A shimmering sense of vibrant mineral interaction with pear, apple and peach and an ethereal impression of liquid floral perfume lead to a captivatingly complex and interactively undulating finish that at once sooths and stimulates. There is an almost tar-like cantus firmus rooting and extending the whole performance. Deiss credits the sense of energy conveyed along with such polish to the vines’ deep-rooting in clay-rich soil. Sweetness here, incidentally, is adeptly integrated and supportive, albeit quite noticeable as such. I suspect this will prove rewarding through at least 2028 Drinking range: 2014 - 2028 Rating: 94 David Schildknecht, www.vinousmedia.com(Aug 2015)

Medium-deep straw-yellow. Ripe aromas of dried fruits, smoke and truffle on the perfumed nose. Fat, sweet and full in the mouth, with rather low acidity and an almost liqueur-like mouthfeel to the lime, peach andpepper flavors. Offers good texture and a metallic earthy touch on the long finish. Rating: 90 Ian d'Agata, www.vinousmedia.com(Nov 2012)

Domaine Marcel Deiss

Jean-Michel Deiss's wines are without doubt among the most exciting of the region. His experimental field blends in the wines he likes to call 'level of Premier Cru' are immensely impressive and worth experimenting with - they each have a definite and unique character, and are some of the most fascinating white wines in the world. Deiss may be a contrary character himself, not always in tune with other producers in the area, but the quality in the wines really does speak for what he has achieved. Biodynamic.
