On clay and friable rock. This is the fourth harvest off these young vines, but they've already shown they can perform well. Vivid with juicy acidity. Nice line and length, like all Laurent's 2012 whites. L&S (Dec 2013)

Milky and smoky on the nose - this nails it with some attractive evolution and not a silly price. For a white burgundy this, alas, is GV. Drinking range: 2016 - 2020 Rating: 16.5 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com (Sep 2016)

An expressive nose flirts with hints of reduction yet the floral, citrus and apple aromas are easy to appreciate. There is good punch and delineation to the lightly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that terminate in a clean, dry and delicious finish that offers both good persistence and overall depth. 2017+ Rating: 89 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jun 2014)

The 2012 Saint Aubin 1er Cru Sentier du Clou has a very composed bouquet with subtle scents of dried apricot and quince that unfold with aeration. The palate is rounded and demonstrated admirable fruit concentration on the entry. This is a generous Saint Aubin with a pleasant fatness and approachability, although I would like a little more tension and mineralite on the finish. Drink now-2017. Rating: 88-88 Neal Martin, www.robertparker.com (Mar 2014)

Rating: 91 Tim Atkin MW, www.timatkin.com (Jan 2014)

Lovely oak character – beautifully integrated toastiness and spice. Rather fat, indulgent structure. Bitter notes to finish – but the overall effect is very charming. 2014-2017 Rating: 16.5 Richard Hemming - www.JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2014)

Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot

Laurent's wife Marie-Anne inherited half of her family's property, the Pommard domaine of Pothier-Rieusset, and he and his father have now bought the other half. The wines from this domaine represent excellent value, and they age very well too, despite being attractive young.

Laurent's 1992 Grandes Ruchottes came top of a tasting of wines of that vintage in 2012, ahead of some supposedly much 'grander' domaines. Laurent manages to pack in a lot alongside his running of the vineyard. He has a sophisticated microlight which he flies to all corners of France, he keeps and hunts hawks, and conducts the Chassagne brass band as well as dabbling in Mayoral duties - on top of being a father.
