2014 Domaine J. Confuron Cotetidot

Grapes Pinot Noir
Colour Red
Origin France, Burgundy
District Côte d'Or
Sub-district Côte de Nuits
Village Gevrey Chambertin

Lovely colour again. Ripe cassis and blackberry, a very youthful 'blue-edged' taste. Freshness and positive grip, and excellent intensity to the fruit on the finish. Drinking range: 2018 - L&S (Nov 2015)

*Case price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.

Bright dark red. Less unrelievedly black on the nose than the village Vosne, offering scents of raspberry, redcurrant, meat and earth. Then juicy, savory and tightly wound, showing little easy sweetness. With more soil character than primary fruit today, this rather serious village wine will need time to unwind in bottle. The tannins arrive late and build. Drinking range: 2020 - 2028 Rating: 89+ Stephen Tanzer, 2017)

Rating: 92 Tim Atkin MW, 2016)

Bright crimson. Cherry juice on the nose and very structured. Lots of confidence and drive. Very easy to like and chock-full of fruit. Clean and persistent. Drinking range: 2017 - 2022 Rating: 16+ Jancis Robinson MW OBE - 2016)

(the majority of this comes from Champs-Chenys, which is situated next to Charmes and it tends to be more elegant than most Gevrey villages wines). There is enough reduction present to push the underlying fruit to the background. The restrained, cool and intense medium weight flavors possess excellent precision and plenty of minerality that adds a touch of life to the impressively long and complex finish. The supporting tannins are quite fine-grained and should allow this terrific effort to be enjoyed earlier than usual. Highly recommended. Drinking range: - 2022 Rating: 89-92 Allen Meadows, 2016)

Domaine J. Confuron Cotetidot

Vignerons since the seventeenth century, the Confuron family even have a strain of Pinot Noir named after them - Pinot Confuron. The domaine has several Grands Crus vineyards as well as the Premier Cru vineyard of Les Suchots, making it one of the very top domaines of the Côte de Nuits. Yves Confuron follows his family tradition of whole-bunch fermentation, giving an extra scent on the nose due to the stems of the grapes remaining intact, and picking very late. One of the strengths of Confuron Cotetidot wines is their ability to age and develop, due to the low yields and old vines that are used, causing them to be more approachable in the medium to long term.
