Creamy weight. Very ripe with a sweetness and spice. Almost a chocolate note. Certainly more spice than mere fruit aromas here. Great volume and very long too. Rather gorgeous. Drinking range: 2022 - L&S (Nov 2015)

Deep red-ruby. Tight but tangy scents of black fruits, crushed stone, minerals and licorice, plus an exotic suggestion of white stone fruits. Wonderfully sappy, precise and energetic, conveying an impression of density without weight. This silky, refined wine is still a baby but its ripe, granular tannins and finishing juiciness suggest it will be a beauty with six or eight years of cellaring. The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots was missing a little delineation on the nose, quite floral as a Suchots ought to be, yet without quite the same level of complexity as its peers. The palate is chewy on the entry, some leafiness tincturing the black fruit, leading to an earthy, slightly reduced finish that needs more finesse and charm. This is a difficult wine to understand. (the domaine is the largest holder in Suchots with an incredible 2.16 ha). An exuberantly spicy nose displays a plethora of floral nuances on the black cherry and cassis scents. There is outstanding concentration to the velvet-textured and broad-shouldered flavors that coat the palate with sap while buffering the very firm tannic spine on the equally well-balanced and again built-to-age finale. The Confurons’ four parcels of this top Vosne Premier Cru make up 2.15 hectares in total. This is a stylishly made wine, with well-integrated whole bunch characters, juicy summer berry flavours and undertones of tapenade and black olive. Vignerons since the seventeenth century, the Confuron family has always selected and propagated vines to ensure that their plant material produces the highest quality, and they even have a clone of Pinot named after them - 'Pinot Confuron'.
The domaine has several Grands Cru vineyards as well as two hectares of the great Vosne Romanée Premier Cru 'Les Suchots'. There are around 12 hectares in all. The vines have never seen chemical weedkillers, and are ploughed and managed organically.
The Confurons have always used whole-bunch fermentation, picking very late, which really is a necessity if the stems are to be properly ripe and not give green flavours to the wine. A bit like the Thévenets with their whites in the Mâconnais, they pick so much later that they can seem to have different vintages to everyone else. Yves thinks that 2007 was their great vintage of the first decade of this millennium, and he'd probably be the only grower in the Côte de Nuits who would say that. Yves also makes the wines at Domaine de Courcelin Pommard, in the same way.
Yves, opinionated and laconical as ever, dismisses those who make pale wines by 'infusion' and says that failing to get the whole bunches properly ripe - and using all the bunch - is failing to get everything the terroir can offer. The wines he makes are dark, richly concentrated, and often hard to taste in their development, but experience shows that they age brilliantly
