2015 Los Companeros Pikes Polish Hill River Estate
|Origin||Australia, South Australia|
Mix of confectionery and drains and glacé cherries on the nose. Thick and syrupy ripe and chocolate. Sweet. Good tang but just a little hot and uncomfortable under the collar. The Shiraz and Tempranillo seem to be fighting each other. Drinking range: 2018 - 2020 Jancis Robinson MW OBE - www.JancisRobinson.com (Mar 2018)
*Case price: Mix any 12 bottles of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
Pikes Polish Hill River Estate
James Suckling writing about Pikes in 2018 says 'They’re good, consistent wines packed with soulful interest, offering great value.' We certainly agree and are delighted to still be working together after more than 20 years. Owned by the Pike brothers, one of whom (Andrew) was for many years the senior viticulturist with Southcorp, the other (Neil) a former winemaker at Mitchells. Pikes now has its own winery, with Neil Pike presiding.
Generously constructed and flavoured wines are the order of the day, but wines which also have a restraint and a drinkability far ahead of some of the 'maximum one glass' reds that seem to dominate Australian shows and exports.
