CHAMBOLLE MUSIGNY

2016 Vieilles Vignes Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

Grapes Pinot Noir
Colour Red
Origin France, Burgundy
District Côte d'Or
Sub-district Côte de Nuits
Village Chambolle Musigny
ABV 13%

This year because of frost damage Christophe has made just one cuvée of Chambolle made up of 4 barrels of 1er Cru and 5 barrels of normal village level wines. Bright, yet ripe intense middle. Classy feel. Pure fruit dominates a crystalline note, but good density too. Not airy-fairy, but polished and deeply flavoured, just with elegance. Ripe strawberry and nice acidity here. Touch of leafy crunch adds savour and cuts through too. Mineral note picks up towards the finish - adding more purity more drive. Elegant power. L&S (Oct 2017)

Cask sample. Baked-fruit aromas with a fruit-driven style that isn't typically burgundian. Firm, chalky tannic grip. Drinking range: 2020 - 2030 Rating: 16 Richard Hemming MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Feb 2018)

(Perrot-Minot's only Chambolle cuvée in 2016, consisting of five barrels of village wine and four of premier cru): Bright, dark red. Sexy scents of red berries, spices, wild herbs and rose petal. A step up in intensity from the village Morey, offering a seamless texture and also brisk minerality to its flavors of sappy red berries and spices. Still a bit youthfully clenched but the spicy, subtly palate-staining features lovely stony mineral grip. Perrot-Minot says that this wine does not have the breed or complexity to be bottled as premier cru owing to its moderate ripeness but it will nonetheless be a 2016 to seek out. Rating: 90-92 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jan 2018)

(from 90 to 100 year old vines in Les Bussières where ~40% of the blend is from four different 1ers). A more elegant and complex nose combines notes of dark raspberry, cherry, violet, lavender and pretty spice whiffs. The sleek, intense and mineral-inflected middle weight plus flavors brim with dry extract as well as a highly attractive underlying tension while delivering first-rate depth and persistence on the balanced finish. While it’s true that almost half of the blend is from premier cru vineyards, this is still a superb Chambolle villages and very much worth your attention. Drinking range: 2024 - Rating: 90-93 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2018)

Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
