More intense fruit here than in the Charmes. A delicious strawberry jam middle which gets darker, more black fruit berries. Spice and pretty aromas of some dried flowers, hydrangea and dusty pot-pourri. The middle is intense, compacted and nicely firm mineral casing for the fruit core. Great drive, great power and tension, more grip than the Mazoyeres and Charmes - but still precisely poised and sculpted. Powerful stuff. L&S (Oct 2017)

Bright, dark red with ruby highlights. Very rich, deep aromas of small wild dark fruits, tobacco and earth lifted by floral and spicy high notes. Plush, seamless, silky wine offering captivating sweetness and impressive volume without any heaviness. In fact, the dark fruit and savory soil flavors convey a remarkable lightness. The palate-staining, spicy finish leaves the taste buds vibrating. Rating: 92-95 Stephen Tanzer, www.vinousmedia.com (Jan 2018)

(from Chapelle proper). Here too the restrained but exceptionally pretty nose is cool, pure and airy with its array of red and dark currant, earth, spice and lovely floral nuances. The middle weight and caressing flavors possess a notably finer mouthfeel that is at once firm but elegant thanks once again to the relatively fine grain of the supporting tannins shaping the markedly firm and youthfully austere finish. This is very clearly built-to-age yet I suspect that it will unwind sufficiently quickly to be approachable after 5-ish years or so of cellaring. Drinking range: 2031 - Rating: 92-95 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2018)

The 2016 Chapelle-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru, which lost half its production due to frost, has quite an intense bouquet with slightly darker fruit than Perrot-Minot's Charmes-Chambertin: raspberry mingling with blackcurrant and blueberry. With aeration in the glass, it becomes quite floral and offers attractive wilted violet petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin. I love the balance and poise of this Chapelle-Chambertin, nothing too extroverted or showy, just all about the tension and the mineralité that comes through on the finish. Drinking range: 2020 - 2040 Rating: 94-96 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2017)

Domaine Christophe Perrot-Minot

Christophe Perrot-Minot is now the fourth generation of his family producing wine on the estate after his great grandfather Amédée Merme devoted himself to the management and production of wine over 130 years ago. The estate has gone from strength to strength – always keeping the highest standards. Integrated viticulture has been practiced for many years now which has been adapted especially for the terroir. No herbicide or chemical fertilizer is used, instead, Christophe prefers to “stand back and listen to this terroir, only intervening when necessary or when the weather requires it, never systematically.” This is one of the star domaines of the whole of Burgundy.
