Lush and soft, a nice balance of ripe fruit and fine tannins, good brightening acidity - significantly more richness than eg Beaumont. Drinking range: 2021 - 2033 Rating: 87-88 L&S (Apr 2017)

Readers looking for a Médoc that over-delivers should check out the 2016 Château La Tour de By, a sleeper in this great vintage. Outstanding notes of cassis, spice box, dried tobacco, and nicely integrated oak flow to a medium to full-bodied effort that has a seamless, layered texture. I loved it. The 2016 La Tour de By has quite an intense blackberry, briary and truffle scented bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The palate is rounded and velvety on the entry, to the point where I would like more grip. This is plush and generous, quite long in the mouth although I wonder if it has real ageing potential.
