Les Loachausses is a monopole of the Gros Family. (Anne has some vines & Gros Parent the rest) Lovely sweetly ripe middle once again. Red fruit streaked with blackberry edge. Long, powdery feel. Lilac and lavender here too. It's delicious. Elegant, scented, floral and gently intense. There's a tautness and litheness here - powered by mineral edge. Superb. 60+% New Wood on all the Grand Crus. Harvested 27 Sept. 38yo vines. L&S (Oct 2017)

Ten rather than 15 barrels (four new) from 40-year-old vines in Les Loächausses. Bottom part of the slope frozen terribly but the top was fine. Tank sample. Mid ruby. Very sweet, round and full. Really very lovely. Hugely attractive. Mid weight of ripe fruit with good freshness on the end. Fine tannins. Very long. Already alluring! Hint of violets. An early maturer. Drinking range: 2020 - 2035 Rating: 18 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Feb 2018)

(from a .76 ha parcel, which is about 30% of the total climat). Slightly more obvious wood treatment frames the notably spicier and floral-infused aromas of both red and dark currant along with a hint of tea. The velvety, concentrated and sappy flavors are more refined as well as more powerful while the impressively persistent finish is shaped by ripe tannins. This is quite firm but not rustic and I particularly like the balance here. Drinking range: 2028 - Rating: 91-94 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Jan 2018)

The 2016 Echezeaux Grand Cru has a clean and pure bouquet, a little stoniness at first then blackberry, hints of cassis and blueberry, quite perfumed and floral. Maybe this is more linear than its peers? The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasing succulence on the entry, a keen thread of acidity that binds together a satisfyingly edgy finish. As usual, Anne’s Echézeaux is full of tension but it will deserve several years in bottle. Drinking range: 2022 - 2040 Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2017)

Domaine Anne Gros

Anne Gros joined her father François at the family domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1988, having given up her arts studies in favour of viticulture and oenology at Beaune and Dijon, and has run the domaine alone since 1995. The Domaine now has 6.5 hectares of Pinot and Chardonnay. Anne describes herself as being 'wary of certainties and keen to preserve her freedom'.

In the vineyards Anne practises viticulture influenced by organic and biodynamic principles, and the vineyards are ploughed and fertilised with compost, but although she believes that the long-term health of the vineyards are best preserved by such methods, she likes to maintain the freedom to use conventional treatments when necessary.

In the cellar, the wines are classically made, in cement tanks for the reds, and stainless steel for the whites. They are then are aged in barrel for up to fifteen months, with 80% new wood for the grand crus, 50% for the village wines and 30% for the regional wines. Anne is quietly meticulous and almost obsessive about cleanliness in her cellar, which perhaps is reflected in the delicacy and restrained tension in her wines, which have aromatic clarity, limpid precision, sheer joie de vivre, lively balance and persistence.
