This Pinot comes from the same parcel as the white. On the nose lots of very pretty, delicate red fruit. In the mouth this seems riper and more full on. Super sweet strawberry is the headline then quite an easy-going forest fruit hit. There is a purity and a lift here too - this is not heavy- but jolly and easy with a sweet red fruit feel. Youngish vines and 30% New wood, this works really well. These vines are in Concoeur just above the village of Vosne-Romanée. Originally bare of any vines, it was planted in stages. (96, 97, 98). Just under half of this is planted with Pinot Noir. L&S (Oct 2017)

(made with no added sulfites). A much earthier if slightly more complex nose features notes of dark pinot fruit along with floral and spice wisps. The sleeker and finer middle weight flavors possess slightly more evident minerality before concluding in a saline and equally refreshing finish. Lovely stuff. Drinking range: 2020 - Rating: 87 Allen Meadows, www.Burghound.com (Apr 2018)

Palish medium red. Sappy aromas of red cherry and pomegranate. Juicy, leanish and thirst-quenching, with its red fruit flavors accented by flowers and spices. Finishes with supple tannins. This fruit was harvested at 12% and chaptalized to 12.5%, and the wine has the highest pH among these 2016s, at 3.65. Fun to drink. Drinking range: 2018 - 2022 Rating: 88 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Jan 2018)

I have a lot of time for her Hautes-Côtes de Nuits white and red that should drink well over the next three or four years. The 2016 Hautes Cotes de Nuits, which was not really touched by the frost, has a delightful, fragrant bouquet with brambly red berry fruit and a touch of strawberry pastilles. The palate is medium-bodied with light, crunchy tannin, fresh and vibrant with modest weight and concentration on the finish. One of the best that I encountered of its type. Drinking range: 2018 - 2023 Rating: 88 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Dec 2017)

Domaine Anne Gros

Anne Gros joined her father François at the family domaine in Vosne Romanée in 1988, having given up her arts studies in favour of viticulture and oenology at Beaune and Dijon, and has run the domaine alone since 1995. The Domaine now has 6.5 hectares of Pinot and Chardonnay. Anne describes herself as being 'wary of certainties and keen to preserve her freedom'.

In the vineyards Anne practises viticulture influenced by organic and biodynamic principles, and the vineyards are ploughed and fertilised with compost, but although she believes that the long-term health of the vineyards are best preserved by such methods, she likes to maintain the freedom to use conventional treatments when necessary.

In the cellar, the wines are classically made, in cement tanks for the reds, and stainless steel for the whites. They are then are aged in barrel for up to fifteen months, with 80% new wood for the grand crus, 50% for the village wines and 30% for the regional wines. Anne is quietly meticulous and almost obsessive about cleanliness in her cellar, which perhaps is reflected in the delicacy and restrained tension in her wines, which have aromatic clarity, limpid precision, sheer joie de vivre, lively balance and persistence.
